🐾✨ Why Do Yorkies Change Color? ✨🐾
(And why it’s completely normal!)

One of the most fascinating things about a Yorkshire Terrier is their coat transformation.

Most traditional Yorkies are born black and tan — but that’s not their final color.

As they mature (usually between 6 months – 2 years), their coat gradually lightens and shifts into what’s called:

💎 Blue & Gold

This happens because Yorkies carry a natural color-dilution gene that alters the black pigment over time.

Here’s what that means:

• Black puppy coat → soft steel blue
• Dark tan → rich gold
• Texture becomes silkier as adult coat comes in

✨ The change doesn’t happen overnight. It’s gradual and can look uneven during transition — totally normal!

Not all Yorkies follow the exact same path.

Depending on genetics, you may see:

🤎 Chocolate
🤍 Parti (white patterning)
🌫 Merle (patterned dilution)
✨ Gold Dust
🖤 KB Black (stays darker)

This is why DNA testing in breeding programs matters — it helps predict coat outcomes responsibly and ethically.
