Not all news is uplifting, but some things must be shared.

The Yulin dog meat “festival” starts today.
Every year, thousands of dogs and cats, many of them stolen pets, are crammed into tiny wire cages, starved, and brutally slaughtered for food. It is heartbreaking, it is real, and it is happening right now.

We wish we didn’t have to post this.
But turning away won’t help them.

Please visit the Humane Society’s website to learn how you can take action and donate to help end the dog and cat meat trade:

Together, we can fight to stop this cruelty.

With a smile like that, you’d think Owen was at the dog park instead of the doctor’s office! Or maybe it’s because he heard he did so well for his recheck?

This handsome boys name is Max! Max is a three-year-old Border Collie mix who had a rough start at life. He has been with us At Second Chance Animal Center since 2023, with a short few months in a foster home. He is a very intelligent boy who loves to play ball and won’t let his eye sight stop him! He is mostly blind and has had cataract surgery about a year ago, unfortunately post-surgery during a re-check of his eyes he is shown to have progressive retinal atrophy, which means his eyesight will continue to worsen. Once totally blind, he will need both eyes removed to eliminate the possibility of glaucoma. He is well adjusted to being blind, but has unfortunately shown reactivity to strangers, both human and animals but he has made great progress over the years! We are hoping in the right home he will be able to be worked with to reduce his issues with strangers. Ideally he should go to someone with a fenced in yard as he loves to play. Once he is comfortable with someone he becomes a big, playful sweetheart. He is also excellent for his multiple daily eye medications. In the right home this boy shows promise to make someone a wonderful companion! Please help us find a home for Max! Call us at (802) 375-2898 ex 305 or visit our website https://2ndchanceanimalcenter.org/adopting-a-dog/ to fill out an application!

As a therapy dog, Shea brings comfort, joy, and calm wherever she goes - and today, it was our turn to take care of her. We’re so happy to provide her with a free eye screening as part of the 2025 ACVO/Epicur Service Animal Eye exam.
