As more people bring dogs into their homes, we encounter more dogsā€”making it even more important to know how to stay safe around them.

One of my Animal Communication clients, Julie, recently shared her experience feeling unsafe around certain dogs belonging to family members. She asked me to write about it in hopes it would help others navigate similar situations.

Before I became a professional Animal Communicator, I spent over 30 years as a Humane Educator teaching dog bite prevention in SF Bay Area classrooms. That experience led me to co-write the book Overcoming Your Childā€™s Fear of Dogs.

Keeping everyone safe, including the dog, means setting boundaries and trusting your instincts. When we treat fear as ā€œno big dealā€ or something to push through, we create an unsafe situation for the person/child and the dog.
