It's true! Please don't be scared or harm them. Please contact a rehabber right away. Keep them warm, but do not feed or offer water. They need to be properly hydrated first and then they need the right blend of nutrition. There's so much misinformation on the internet - please, for these babies - get them to an expert. And thank you for saving them!! ❤🙏

They’re not attacking — they’re asking for help. 🐿💛

About coyotes (and outdoor cats). Please educate yourself and share with others. Thank you!! 🙏❤️

Let’s talk about the coyote~

Coyotes are clever, resilient, and widely misunderstood. These wild canines have adapted to nearly every corner of North America—but with human sprawl encroaching on their habitats, many people have questions (and concerns) about who they are and how to live safely alongside them.

Coyotes form strong bonds with mates throughout the breeding season (January through March) and are known to mate for life. A pack of coyotes generally is a family, consisting of a breeding pair and their pups from the current year. However, these family units can also include older coyotes from previous litters. Young coyotes disperse around June-September to build their own family. If eradicating coyotes is your “solution”, you will only cause a boom in population. Killing the Alpha Female will result in all of her sub females going uncontrolled and going into heat. The Aloha female is the only female allowed to reproduce in the pack. Eliminating her pack, will result in her and mate having larger litters, more frequently.

Coyotes are considered keystone species, meaning their presence has a significant impact on the surrounding ecosystem. They help control populations of smaller animals, preventing overgrazing and the spread of diseases carried by rodents. Most of their diet consists of small rats, rabbits, and roadkill. Coyotes consume fruits and seeds from various plants, and their s**t can disperse those seeds, helping to maintain plant diversity and create natural corridors of plant distribution.

Coyotes are incredibly adaptable and can thrive in a variety of habitats, including urban and suburban areas. This resilience allows them to continue playing their ecological role even in human-dominated landscapes. Coyote clean up crew! Coyotes also scavenge carrion, helping to remove dead animals and prevent the spread of diseases.

The picture painted around the coyote is that they are man mauling, dog & cat eating machines, and that simply is not the case. They are shy by nature. If an opportunity does present itself it may be of occurrence that they will take on a SMALL dog or stray cat, however, it is out of their normal diet and is something they do not seek out. As pet owners, it’s your responsibility to protect your pups and cats. You have a greater chance of your animal being hit by a car, caught by a bird of prey, or killed by another domestic than you do a coyote coming up and taking it as a meal. Coyotes also only hunt for survival, not for sport, like all other wildlife.

Many people get very hyped about the presence of a coyote in their neighborhood and are ready to take arms in defense, with the thought they will eat “outdoor cats”. However, our outdoor, invasive cats are accepted but our natural animals are seen as a nuisance. (Coyote migration to our region was a natural occurrence)
If this same desire of removal was taken for feral cats our wildlife population would be much safer. Feral/ outdoor cats are our most invasive species and cause the most damage to our wildlife population for pure sport, not purpose. Catios are highly recommended for cats, just as leashes are required by law for a dog in the city.

Additionally~ our feral cat population is more likely to spread disease to our wildlife than wildlife spreading disease to our domestics. Here is a list of those diseases:
Viral Diseases:

Rabies: A fatal viral disease transmitted through bites, which can affect many mammals, including wildlife. Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV): Can be transmitted to other cats and potentially other susceptible animals. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV): Can be transmitted to other cats through bites.
Parasitic Diseases:
Toxoplasmosis:Caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, which cats shed in their f***s. It can affect a wide range of animals, including birds and mammals. •Intestinal Parasites:Feral cats can carry and shed various intestinal parasites like roundworms, hookworms, and coccidia, which can be transmitted to other animals through contaminated f***s.
Bacterial Diseases: Tularemia:A bacterial disease that can be transmitted through contact with infected animals or their fluids. Salmonellosis:Bacteria shed in cat f***s can contaminate the environment and be ingested by other animals. Campylobacteriosis:Another bacterial infection that can be transmitted through contaminated f***s.
Sporotrichosis: A fungal infection that can be transmitted through scratches or bites.

In closing~ keep your distance, be a responsible pet owner, educate yourself on our native friends, and remember that coexistence is the best route to take and it keeps everyone happy.
