A Thank You & Farewell From Rio & CO’s Founder 🐶💕
In high school, my favorite teacher said, “Find a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” That seed grew when I started my dog walking business in my early 20’s with zero clients, no clue what I was doing, and a whole lot of tears for three months not making a dollar. Then came Bella The Boxer, Sophie, Zona Rona, Basil and the ball was rolling. Finally I was making money.
These pups carried me through life’s highs and lows. I watched families grow, kids go from high school to university, and even clients become parents themselves. I’ve been your dog’s date at yours and your loved ones weddings, cheered you on, and my clients even helped rescue my own dog Rio and bring it back to Canada when a boy broke my heart. We’ve even had to say goodbye and mourn together. This was never just a business. This was a family.
One of my greatest joys was showcasing Toronto’s beauty through “dogtography” with the happiest models ever. From the CN Tower to the rooftop of the Thompson and infront of some of the best graffiti artists in Canada, your dogs made every landmark shine.
After a decade of early mornings, tough winters, and more sun exposure than my skin ever needed, I’ve said goodbye to dog walking and taken on a new challenge in car sales at Toyota on the Park. Robert Burns will be carrying the torch for Rio & Co., and your pups are in trusted hands.
Starting over is exciting, but it’s also terrifying. The same fears I had when I built this business, financial insecurity, uncertainty—are back. But if Rio & Co. taught me anything, it’s that the best things in life come from taking a leap of faith. Right now, I’m in the middle of that leap, and while I may be having an existential moment about it, I know I’m exactly where I need to be.
Thank you all for the memories, the trust, and the laughs. It was an honor and a privilege. See you around-maybe at a park, on a stroll, or the next time you or your loved one is in the market for a new ride.
My new slogan to live by, “Every Toyota driver thinks they own the best vehicle. And none of them are wrong.” 😏
Much love and light,
Katherine Lake
