💡Breed Spotlight - German Shepherd 💡

We've got a popular one for you! The German Shepherd Dog (GSD) was ranked #4 in breed popularity by AKC in 2025. These guys can be easy to maintain at home, but we still love to see them at the salon and they can always benefit from a good de-shedding treatment!

Known for their intelligence, courage and confidence, the German Shepherd can be a great family protector! Developed in the late 19th century, the GSD was developed to herd sheep by being a living fence, running back and forth to keep the sheep in the pasture. Now they are more known for working in police academies and military units, or being fabulous family pets, like Riggs here!

💡Breed Spotlight - Irish Terrier 💡

This week we have another rare breed for you! The Irish Terrier, also known as the "Daredevil" of Emerald Isle, is a fiery yet tenderhearted pup that is one of the oldest terrier breeds in the world (breed type was set around the 1870s!). They were developed as an all-purpose farm dog - ratter, watchdog, guardian, hunting companion, you name it!

Irish Terrier's coat requires regular brushing and hand stripping to keep the dense, wiry coat under control. Boxty's dad was having trouble finding a groomer locally who can hand-strip, but Anna got him looking sharp again! Ranked #149 for breed popularity in 2025 by AKC, they could use some more fans.

💡Breed Spotlight - Poodle 💡

The poodle comes in 3 sizes, Toy (no more than 10 inches), Mini (15 inches or under) and Standard (more than 15 inches). Shaggy to Chic Boutique sees Standards the most, but we love all sizes. Their haircuts can range from intricate to simple depending on client preference. Poodles make great family dogs and are known for being active, confident and very intelligent.

Developed in France, the Poodle was a duck hunter where it's curly coat protected against the elements. Poodles are ranked currently ranked #6 in breed popularity by the AKC in 2025 (dropping one spot to the Dachshund!). The poodle is also one of the main components of our most common dog in the salon, the Doodle! Aspen is a fabulous poodle puppy we saw recently for her first haircut!
