Remember to check your supply of eye medications (and others!) to be sure that you won't run out in the week or so! If you need medications before the storm arrives, either email us [email protected] or call 561.434.5700. We are in the office all day today, and Saturday morning briefly before noon.

ALSO, very importantly, if we do have landscaping damage around your home after the storm please be VERY careful about letting your pets outside - immediately after the storm is a time where we see a dramatic increase in infected eye injuries - so be sure you are with them outside, and don't let them investigate too much!

Cataracts are opacities in the lens of the eye, which focuses images. You cannot see through them. When the entire lens is a cataract, you have basically no vision. Cataracts can be inherited, due to diabetes, trauma (cat claw to the eye - ouch!), dietary abnormalities, inflammation, and other reasons. Here is a gallery of some of the variations...

Some eyes are spectacularly beautiful. The appearance of blue is actually an illusion... it is a thin layer of non-pigmented cells or tissue, with dark pigment behind it... depending on how much, determines the color. Changes in the flow of blood change the colors...

Infrared photography allows us to see through certain opacities in the eye, and to be able to pick up abnormalities further back. It also can give some spectacular detail on the iris (the colored part of the eye which forms the pupil).
