Periodontal disease is a progressive infection of the gums, teeth, and supporting structures of the mouth. It begins when bacteria in the mouth form a sticky film called plaque, which hardens into tartar. As tartar accumulates below the gumline, it leads to inflammation, tissue damage, and eventually tooth loss if left untreated.

🔍 Four Stages of Periodontal Disease:
Stage 1 – Gingivitis:
The gums appear red and swollen and may bleed. This is the only reversible stage if treated early.
Stage 2 – Early Periodontitis:
Plaque and tartar extend below the gumline, causing gum separation and mild bone loss.
Stage 3 – Moderate Periodontitis:
Infection spreads deeper, causing pain, loose teeth, and moderate bone destruction.
Stage 4 – Advanced Periodontitis:
Severe infection and bone loss. Teeth may fall out, and bacteria can enter the bloodstream, affecting the heart, kidneys, and liver.

How To Choose Your Pet Healthcare Provider?

During a recession, when times are so challenging for us all, what is the best approach for pet families, to ensure and to be able to provide the routine, emergency and/or surgical/dental care that your pets need?

🐾 Look to your trusted local, neighborhood Veterinary practice, whom you trust- to provide wise & affordable care, and will follow ONLY the treatment plan that is necessary, not ‘all the things that can be done or tried’, under the sun! Your trusted provider knows the difference-

🐾 Ask your primary Provider if they offer delayed payment options, or financing for the health care your pet NEEDS!

🐾 when your provider outlines a treatment plan, if it is unaffordable, discuss your limitations honestly and directly, and ask your Provider what options you have- In veterinary Medicine, there are always options!!! Sometimes, many options, and various treatment plans possible to obtain a desired outcome!

🐾 Do not hesitate to obtain a ‘second opinion’. Many providers will even offer a ‘second opinion’ free of charge- and we encourage you to take the time to seek out alternate care recommendations!
