SOS Pets of Ouachita

SOS Pets of Ouachita We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that spearheaded the effort to build a new Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter. Pls see that page to sign up!

We're now focusing our efforts to assist with NELA spay & neuter surgeries, through our "Spay Or Snip" program. SOS Pets of Ouachita seeks to raise tax-deductible private donations to construct a new shelter, to replace the existing 1950’s Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter facility. This facility remains in use today and has evolved into an open-admittance facility with an annual intake of ~6,000 ani

mals per year, serving multiple regional parishes, with minimal surrender fees per type of animal. In early 2017 after reports of newborn puppies freezing to death in the shelter, a group of private citizens formed the nonprofit organization, SOS (Save Our Shelter) Pets of Ouachita, with its primary goal of privately funding a new public shelter, to replace the existing facility. From an initial deposit of $1.00, today's cash, in-kind donations and pledged funds have grown to over $1M, with a median private contribution of $20. Due to overwhelming community support to build an all-new animal shelter at a new location instead of piecemealing at the existing undesirable location, the SOS Pets Board of Directors sought and secured 5 acres of donated land to build the new facility. Please help if you can! 100% of the proceeds go to the Shelter Fund. This is a labor of love, and all our time is donated to this cause.

It was our honor this evening to visit with the Town of Richwood to collect a check from a pledge made back in 2017 to SOS Pets of Ouachita, to help fund our new Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter! Since the new shelter is now under construction and set to be completed by the end of this year, Richwood did not hesitate to step up and honor their pledge! Thank you so much Mayor Gerald Brown and the Town of Richwood! We appreciate you!

This is a HIGHLY valuable service that PAWS of NE Louisiana is providing for our community. Your animal advocacy nonprofit groups are stepping up to the plate to serve your pets! Thank you, PAWS NELA!

Our 6th FREE Pet Wellness Weekend hosted by PAWS of NE LA and sponsored by RedRover, BISSELL Pet Foundation and Banfield Foundation is 10 days away! We have vaccinated over 2,160 pets to date through these outreach clinics and can’t wait to help even more families and pets in need.💜

PLEASE READ if you are planning on attending and share with fellow pet owners in NE LA.

🐾When is the event?🐾
Friday, April 17th from 8am-12pm and Saturday, April 18th from 9am-4pm

🐾Where is the event?🐾
Whites Ferry Road Church at 3201 N 7th Street in West Monroe. This will be a drive thru event, with everyone staying in line, in their cars, until they reach the vet station under the church’s portico. Please pull into the parking lot at the PAWS tent/check in station. We will have volunteers there giving out paperwork and directing folks where to go.

🐾What is being offered for FREE?🐾
Rabies vaccines for dogs and cats. DAPP vaccines for dogs. RCCP vaccines for cats. Engraved pet ID tags. Flea/tick medication. Pet supplies (collars, harnesses, leashes, food, toys). Everything will be given out for FREE as long as supplies last so come early if you can. This is all thanks to support from Red Rover, Banfield, and Bissell!

🐾What about the FREE spay/neuter vouchers? Very important!🐾
We have a limited number of vouchers sponsored by Red Rover and Tito's Handmade Vodka. We will also be issuing vouchers from our regular PAWS Spay/Neuter Assistance Program on site. To increase your chances of getting a surgery voucher, PLEASE bring PROOF OF INCOME (2 consecutive pay stubs, social security benefits, or government assistance letter or card for Medicaid and/or SNAP).

🐾Important things you need to know on the day of the event:🐾
• Please bring cats in carriers (or contained in some way). We will have a limited number of cat carriers available to be used to get cats from cars to the vet station if needed.
• Please bring dogs on leash or crated. We have slip leashes for dogs to use.
• We know the event may be stressful for your pet, so please let a volunteer know if you think they may show any signs of fear aggression. We will have muzzles available. Please do not let your pet interact with other pets at the event.
• A volunteer will greet you in the parking lot upon arrival and you will fill out paperwork in your car. We can even help you fill out the paperwork if needed!
• Please be patient. We are expecting a big turnout, and the event is being put on by volunteers.

🐾Who will be giving my pet(s) the vaccinations?🐾
A wonderful local Veterinarians and vet techs are donating their time for this event to take care of your pet(s). Please make sure to thank them!

🐾Do I have to live in a certain Parish to be able to come to the event?🐾
No! Anyone in need is welcome as long as you are willing/able to drive to West Monroe.

🐾Does my pet have to come to the event?🐾
That depends… if you only need an engraved ID tag and/or surgery voucher, they do not have to come. For all other free services, the pet has to be present.

🐾How can I help with this event?🐾
We would LOVE to get more supply donations to give out. The chewy wish list for the event is here: https://www.chewy.com/g/paws-of-northeast-louisiana_b116376945 ....You can also send a monetary donation that we will happily use to buy supplies to give out.🙏 Our PayPal is [email protected].
