We can help with all your horse needs here at Excel Performance horses!! Lessons are very goal oriented to help you learn to the best of your ability.

Located in West Jordan Utah, Excel Performance Horses specializes in developing top-tier performance horses by combining performance-style training with the principles of natural horsemanship. From just learning how to ride to adding to your current riding knowledge we have got you covered. Training and Lessons come at a fair price and you are guaranteed to get what you paid for. I have been riding at Vista Farms since I was 8 and have been training and teaching horses and their parents for 10 years now. Training and showing horses has been a passion of mine my entire life and I am honored to be able to share that passion with other fellow horse lovers. Students can start as young as 6 years old and range to any age above that! you are never to old to learn to ride!! We teach everything from beginner horse care to advanced horse showing. All styles included; such as Western, Hunt seat, Dressage, jumping, saddleseat, reining, and 4H events. Though we mostly compete in Arabian and 1/2 Arabian Pleasure showing. Or if you are just in need of help with one of your horses whether its starting under saddle, trouble shooting, or training to be a show horse we will take them all. Any breed accepted!

This is part 2 of my 5 part series about things I wish I had known before becoming a horse trainer.

I must admit in some ways I am still very free. I am actively making a life around the one thing in this world that truly makes me happy, horses. Yes the hours are long. Yes we work no matter what. Holidays, illness, earthquakes (literally), nothing stops me from showing up and taking care of these animals. They simply matter more than anything else and I wouldn't have it any other way. And within that choice is true freedom! Sure sometimes it sounds nice to not be so tied to my career and to have more than just a couple hours of "me time" a week but that's a sacrifice I'll make over and over. This is a career driven by passion and when you are passionate you can handle the hard this comes with.

If you want to be a trainer or you are a trainer, let me know your experience and I will do my best to help you by answering questions and sharin my own knowledge!

We want to wish the very best of luck to our friends and all competitors at this 60th Arabian and Half Arabian US Nationals competition!

We have no doubt the competition will be fierce, and the event will be exciting and we are sad we can’t be there to celebrate with you.

You might not believe it, but there is a lot of disagreement on the best way to handle classic impatience like this.

We believe the correct answer is C. Ignore the behavior.

Here's why:
The horse is trying to express that they are bored and would like something else to do. If you were to stomp at them you are simply giving them attention (think dog barking) and reinforcing that if they do this, they will get a response from you.
Slapping them on the shoulder is also giving them attention, negative attention at that. And while it may seem like 'disciplining' them in this situation is the best answer it actually is communicating once again that they will get you to interact with them and they won't have to be bored anymore.

By ignoring the behavior you are making the horse have to deal with standing around and waiting for you to be ready for what's next. A lot of horses that do this are impatient and/or young and as they mature they may grow out of it. But interacting with the behavior is going to encourage them to do this a lot longer than just dealing with them making noise would.

Starla has been an integral next step for several of our riders in advancing their experience and competition status.

I have owned Starla her whole life and she is the daughter of one of my foundational lesson horses, Jetta.

I really is such a privilege to be able to share her with so many amazing riders, and I am excited to see where she takes her next few companions.

Starla is the last of our lesson horses in the series. So tell me, what do you want to learn more about the horses here at Excel?

We rounded out the last day of the show with some absolutely stellar rides.

We are so proud of every one of our riders for the hard work they put in to making the most out of their rides. That hard work is certainly paying off!

Kenna and DD had one of their best classes to date, working through some of DDs show ring anxieties and creating a calmer more productive experience in the ring. Kenna is really proving her talent as a trainer, we are so proud of her.

Jocelin and Khash, (who haven't been a partnership in over a year) had some absolutely amazing rides, in very large and competitive classes. Jocelin has been working so hard at becoming a strong and versatile rider, which was very clear in her success showing so many different horses this weekend!

Emma and Woody did a wonderful job beautifully executing how to be a strong partnership in both hunter equitation and horsemanship. It's really amazing to see their growth over the years and how they have both turned into such strong competitors.

Madelyn and Tia have been really pushing themselves in their goals and growing as a partnership in the ring. Madelyns hard work and determination in western riding is amazing and she gets better and better every show.

Sara and Sunny had their cleanest showmanship pattern and FINALLY had so competition to show against and did so well. They have been practicing their butts off and it clearly showed

Beck and Julian had a tough final ride but the silver lining is they were able to get some great advice from the judge on how to help Jules through his insecurities in the show ring! Thank you Jim Lowe at Lowe Show Horse Centre for all the incredible advice you gave to each of our riders at this show, to have you take the time to give some insight was an Incredible gift and we are so thankful!

Thank you all for such a wonderful way to end the show season. This was a great day and a great show! Great job team!

Last day of the horse show!
Yesterday was a great day and today is going to be even better.

Beck and Julian had an amazing open country english class
Tatum and DD did really well getting through their classes with some of their best rides yet.
Sara and Sunny had a great ride in their Eq class and had their best pattern yet!

Kenna and Mia had a few great training tack classes with more progess each time

Youth day will round us out today with Emma and Woody, Jocelin and Khash and Madelyn and Tia

Day 1 recap! Woody and Emma had great goes in the ranch riding and got some of their best scores to date!
Kenna is doing a great job with Mia’s training and showed some real progress in their training tack classes, Tatum and DD had a great class in the afternoon and Beck and Julian gave it their all in the Friesian class!
Sara had an awesome costume class with Sunny and they did great in their equitation classes.
Kenna did a great job helping DD work through her stress in the Country English Open!
