Another young canine trainee at APEX K9. This is Crazy Zane, a 5-month-old puppy. He was extremely energetic prior to training. Under guidance, with his owner dedicating time to training, he is mastering walking nicely on a leash, sit-stay, and down-stay commands. They are making excellent progress.

Geaux Wild Rehab

It’s time to have a very important conversation.

When you find injured or orphaned wildlife, your instinct is to help and that comes from a good place. But there is one rule that must be followed every single time:

DO NOT EVER FEED THEM

ONLY keep them warm and safely contained in something

Feeding an animal something you “have on hand” is not helping - it is often a death sentence. Wildlife have very specific dietary needs and giving things like cow’s milk, evaporated milk, heavy whipping cream, breast milk, coffee creamer or almond milk can cause severe digestive issues, aspiration, organ failure… and tragically, death.

In just the last four days I have received calls about seven different animals - bunnies, squirrels, opossums, and baby raccoons that were all fed the wrong thing. Every single one of them lost their life because of it.

Please understand these type of posts are never about shame or blame. Every person who tried to help meant well. This is about education and prevention.

Your role when you find wildlife is simple, but critical:
✨ Keep them warm
✨ Keep them safe
✨ Get them to a licensed rehabilitator as quickly as possible

That’s how you truly give them a chance to survive.

We will continue to share this message again and again in hopes that it reaches more people each time. Because one less feeding mistake means one more life saved.

Please take a minute and help by sharing this post too
