Please know that these reports are not being ignored. Animal Control is actively investigating all information received. These investigations take time and must be conducted thoroughly.

We understand the concern these reports have caused and appreciate everyone's patience while the investigation is ongoing.

If you have first hand information, photos, videos, or witnessed an incident, please contact Ogemaw County Animal Control directly so the information can be documented as part of the investigation. While social media can help raise awareness, reports made directly to Animal Control are essential for a proper investigation.

Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be frightening for our pets. Every year, many animals become lost after being startled by loud noises.

Before the celebrations begin, take a few minutes to:
-Microchip your pet if they aren't already.
-Make sure your pet's microchip information is up to date with your current phone number and address.
-Ensure your dog is properly licensed. A current license helps Animal Control quickly identify and reunite lost pets with their owners.

Taking these simple steps can make all the difference if your pet becomes lost.

We have received an increased number of stray dog reports recently. If you find a stray dog, Michigan Law requires that it be reported to Animal Control or local law enforcement within 48 hours. Reporting found dogs helps us reunite pets with their owners and ensures proper procedures are followed.

Please remember that stray dogs should be reported through Animal Control and should not be taken directly to Rea Family Animal Shelter. Animal Control must handle the intake process and required stray hold before other arrangements can be made.

I am also asking our community to keep an eye out for anyone abandoning or dumping animals. If you witness suspicious activity involving a dog being left behind or released from a vehicle, please document as much information as you can and report it as soon as possible.

If you’re traveling this Memorial Day with your pets, remember that unfamiliar places can be stressful and confusing for them. A pet that’s comfortable at home may become frightened and slip away in a new environment.

Before you hit the road, make sure your pet has:

-A secure collar with current ID tags
-Updated contact information
-A properly fitted harness or leash during stops
-A recent photo saved on your phone, just in case

Proper identification can make all the difference in helping a lost pet get home quickly.
