This is the neighborhood kitty who often greets me when I visit Romeo and Smokey (the two boys I posted yesterday). These photos were taken in 2021; the recent photos I took of her came out too dark, so here are my favorite photos of her instead. I love this little girl so much! She’s so sweet and reminds me of my own cat I had growing up (except she was all black).

*Side note: I do not advocate for cats going outside unsupervised and will never let my client’s kitties go outside. I just wanted to throw a spotlight on this sweet girl that greets me during my pet sitting excursions. ❤️

Miss Kiki had her friends come over to hang out with her while both of their owners went away in a nice vacation! Cami enjoyed ALL the treats (yes, she pretty much ate her treats AND the other kitties’ treats), while Evee kept a watchful eye over the house in her secret hiding spot (under the table). ❤️

As promised, I'm thrilled to share the progress I made with two nervous kitties over the course of 3-4 days! Astra Luna and Murphy stole my heart from day one, but they needed a little extra time to warm up to me.

With shy or fearful animals, patience and understanding are key. Rather than rushing in, I let Astra Luna and Murphy set the pace. Their initial reaction was to run and hide, so I focused on creating a calm and welcoming environment. As I went about my "kitty chores," I spoke to them in a cheerful, but gentle tone and let them observe me from a safe distance.

Bandita, their feline friend that I already have a relationship with, played a crucial role in helping them trust me. Watching Bandita enjoy my company helped Astra Luna and Murphy feel more at ease. Murphy was the first to approach; his curiosity overcame his shyness by about day three and he felt safe approaching me and sniffing me. Astra Luna, understandably cautious with once being considered a feral cat and watching all her kittens grow up and go into new homes, took a bit longer but showed promising signs each day. I always walked slowly around her and avoided eye contact or turned my body away from her when walking near her to be as non-threatening as possible.

Our breakthrough came on day four while I was feeding Bandita a Churu treat. This caught Murphy’s interest, so he enthusiastically came over to lick up the Churu treat, too. To my surprise, this created a chain reaction and suddenly Astra Luna peered over to figure out if she could join in on all the fun! She cautiously approached me to accept the treat from my outstretched arm (to give her as much distance as possible).

Although our time together was brief, the progress we made is really special to me. I can't wait to see these lovely kitties soon to continue showing them I’m a trustworthy friend. Keep an eye out for future posts in the near future about Astra Luna and Murphy!

Last week, I had the joy of visiting Bandita and Meyer, two of the most delightful girls you could imagine. Since my previous visit, I learned that their beloved "brother" Cooper, an orange kitty, and "sister" Kensie, a white and black pit bull mix, sadly passed away. However, the family has welcomed two new "kitty siblings," Astra Luna, a beautiful black and white kitty, and Murphy, a stunning nearly all-black kitty.

I want to take a moment to shine a spotlight on Astra Luna and Murphy because our interactions were incredibly rewarding. Astra Luna, once a feral mother being fostered with her kittens, and Murphy, rescued from the streets, both came with histories that made me anticipate a bit of shyness or nervousness around someone new. My expectations were met initially.

*** Stay tuned for tomorrow's post, where I'll share how I managed to gain the trust of these two cautious kitties in just 3-4 days! ***

Also, I can't leave out the photos of the chickens and aquatic friends I get to look after alongside this kitty crew!

Yesterday, these boys had way too much fun playing in the rain. I’ve been pet sitting each of these boys since they were only a couple months old (and I’ve been working with this client since 2013 who had two Chessie’s at the time)!

Boozer (dark brown) is about 9 months old and a Boykin. Steamer is about 7 years old and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever (he’s quite photogenic 😂)

Today’s morning crew includes Michael who is battling cancer and enthusiastically always greets me (first kitty), Woodstock (second kitty) who is a silly, quirky boy that loves birdwatching, and Aspen (third kitty) who is sweet and shy. Love these boys so much!
