Reign, a 5-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, was rushed to after his eye partially —likely from rough play with a housemate.

Dr. Leah Edwards led emergency treatment to reduce the eye and tack the eyelid closed to protect it while the swelling goes down. Medications were started immediately to manage pain, swelling, and prevent infection.

This week, Reign returned for a , and we’re thrilled with the results. His eye is healing beautifully.

Eye prolapse is ALWAYS an emergency, especially in small breeds like Yorkies, Pugs, Frenchies and Shih Tzus and more. If your dog’s eye bulges or looks out of place, seek care immediately.

🐾 Meet Prime, a 9-year-old chow chow, had a rough morning after chasing a noise in the bushes. Turns out… it was a porcupine. šŸ¦”
And let’s just say Prime didn’t come out on top.

With warmer weather in , porcupine encounters are becoming more common—especially near trails, riverbanks, and backyards. These nocturnal animals aren’t aggressive, but when startled, they defend themselves with painful, barbed quills.

āš ļø Did you know?

Quills don’t just stick—they can migrate into places like the nose, eyes, or chest cavity.
Never try to remove them at home. It’s risky and painful for your pet.

Thankfully, Prime’s family brought him in right away. Dr. Leah Edwards and our team sedated him for safe removal and pain relief—he was a total champ through it all šŸ’ŖšŸ¾

🐾 Meet Odessa, a courageous 2-year-old cat who has overcome incredible challenges in veterinary medicine. Her story began with a suspected diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a viral disease with a grim prognosis.

Undeterred, Odessa's family pursued a second opinion at CVC, where Dr. Edwards referred her to neurologist Dr. Chavera at BluePearl Pet Hospital - in Tacoma A comprehensive workup confirmed the diagnosis, but a novel antiviral treatment, GS-441524, offered a glimmer of hope.

With unwavering support from her family, Odessa underwent a 12-week treatment regimen. Her progress was remarkable, and she eventually regained her strength and vitality. At her final recheck this week, Odessa walked into the clinic not as a patient- but a survivor.

🐾 Meet Leo, a brave 3-year-old , striking a proud pose with Maribel—one of our incredible Doctor’s Aides—after his visit today!

Leo came in with a limp and an abscess between his toes. His owner mentioned that cheatgrass or are common on their property, which may be the culprit. These sharp grass seeds can burrow under the skin, often leading to painful infections like the one we treated today.

Dr. Brownlee carefully flushed the wound, cleared out debris, and applied a clean bandage to promote healing. Leo handled the entire visit like a champ!

🩺 Pet owner tip: If your pets spend time in areas with or tall, dry grass, make it a habit to check their paws, ears, and between their toes after outdoor play. Catching these seeds early can help prevent abscesses and more serious complications. (See slide 4 for how to identify cheatgrass.)

Here’s to a smooth and speedy recovery, Leo! šŸ’™
