Sleepy Creek will be attending the Fur Takers of America Rendezvous in Spencer, IA this week!

We will be accepting fur drop offs at our booth! Please keep in mind we are driving a few hours from the shop, we have no way to keep fur frozen. With that being said, we will only accept hides that have been fleshed and dried.

Our current turn around time is the end of January 2026. The shop will still be open normal business hours for those who are traveling and want to stop by. We can’t wait to see everyone there!

Sleepy Creek will be attending the National Trappers Association Convention in Virginia next week!

Sleepy Creek Tannery will be closed Friday, July 4th in honor of Independence Day. We will reopen Monday, July 7th with our normal business hours. Thank you to all those who have served, have a happy and safe holiday. God bless America!

Great opportunity for those who would like to learn how to put up their own fur! Register through the DNR website in comments below 👇

Only two weeks away, June 22 there will be free fur handling classes at sleepy creek tannery (8 am-noon, and 1pm to 5pm) instructors will show you how to properly skin, flesh and board a variety of species. Classes are small so students can really be hands on, including the opportunity to fleshing their own raccoon that we provide with an instructor. Finished fur is a great way to maximize the price, or save money when shipping it to the tannery. Message us for more information!

Friendly reminder to the folks that are shipping frozen fur - Iowa is warming up which means it’s even more crucial to follow our tips for shipping! Also remember to include your shipping document, we won’t know it’s your fur without it. If you have any questions, please let us know!

We have gotten several packages in lately with no shipping documents, we ask that you please include this document in with your fur.

We have also ran into the issue where orders are coming in with green and dry hides. Please specify which hides are green on your shipping document to make sure they are properly cared for.

By doing so this ensures we know it is your fur and it will get checked in accordingly when it arrives. If you forget to include a document please send us an email at [email protected] or give us a phone call/text at 641-485-2172 letting us know what hides you are sending, who the carrier is, and describe the package it is coming in.

Sleepy Creek Tannery will be at the ITA Fur Auction this Saturday, January 11th in Boone and we will be happy to accept hides for tanning. The auction starts at 9am and will be there until it ends, current turn around time is mid April!
