May 10 is German Shepherd day!

Today we honor this wonderfully intelligent, courageous, loyal, and protective breed! ❤️❤️❤️

As history dictates, a movie comes out the audiences fall in love with the breed and suddenly everyone wants that dog, breeders make money and within a year most are surrendered to a shelter. DOGS IN MOVIES ARE HIGHLY TRAINED! Your dog, without years of work, will not be the same as any movie dog. Please, please do your due diligence and research and know what YOU and your family can handle before you get any type of dog. Along with learning about a type of breed, visit a local shelter or rescue to meet the breed you are interested in, spend some time, and feel it out.

The Belgian Malinois is a very smart and obedient dog. He has strong protective and territorial instincts. This breed needs extensive socialization from an early age, and firm, but not harsh/cruel, training. Belgians are instinctively protective so they must be TRAINED AND SOCIALIZED VERY WELL from an early age. Malinois instinctively display herding behavior such as chasing and circling, moving effortlessly for hours and nipping at people's heels. The dog is good for working and competitive obedience, but NOT FOR TODDLERS who run and scream. A Belgian Malinois will constantly be trying to keep the toddler in one spot!

The Belgian Malinois can live in an apartment ONLY IF it is sufficiently EXERCISED MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. A Belgian Malinois should live to be 12 to 15 years and does well in cooler, not hot or cold, climates.

How do dogs age?
You may have heard that if a dog is one year old, she’s actually seven in human years. Wrong! While canines definitely age faster than humans, this simple calculation is misleading. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, dogs actually hit infancy, childhood and adolescence all in their first year. That’s a lot of rapid growth (and part of the reason large breeds like Great Danes could get injured if over-exercised as puppies, because their joints aren’t fully equipped to handle all of their body weight). Most breeds reach adulthood between one and three years old. Dogs ages six through ten are considered senior citizens. When a dog turns seven, they’ve effectively entered the geriatric phase of their life.

This is NOT funny!
This is NOT cute!
This should NEVER be allowed & encouraged!
Be a responsible adult, and NEVER encourage your kids to do anything like this.
If something happens, it's usually the kid's fault, but the pet will pay for it.
Most kids look at pets as toys; they pull, push, squeeze, punch, grab body parts, slap, and scream at them. It's the ADULTS' responsibility to read the warning signs and prevent these behaviors from happening.

This is totally appropriate

🚨REMINDER🚨

Children under 12 years of age are NOT allowed in the Park! This is for the safety of the kids and out of respect for the dogs (and owners) who are trying to enjoy a space intended strictly for dogs to be able to safely socialize off leash.

We've had numerous complaints lately of parents disregarding this rule, even after other park patrons politely tell them, and letting their kids chase/approach dogs they don't know, climb on the play structures, and even worse allowing their child to climb/sit on a large breed dog. All of this is incredibly irresponsible of the parent to allow and dangerous for the child to be doing.

There are numerous dogs who come to the park that are NOT child friendly, the park should be a safe place for those dogs to enjoy off leash time without the crowds of public at other parks & beaches. The play structures in the park are NOT intended for people to climb on/through - they were designed & built specifically for dogs and using them for purposes other than intended could result in injury. Lastly, it is easy enough for an adult to get knocked down by a "spatially unaware" dog, let alone a small child.

PLEASE respect the Park's rules!
