Born in the southwest of France Jean-Pierre Hourdebaigt (pronounced Hoo-Da-Bay) moved to Canada in 1981 where he continued a generations old family practice of natural healing. In 1983, after graduating at the top of his class from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy, he pursued a very successful career as a Registered Massage Therapist treating many well-known athletes and dignitaries from around the world. His talented, skilled hands have greatly improved the lives of people with injuries sustained from motor vehicle and sports related accidents.
For years, Jean-Pierre has applied European techniques, his knowledge of massage therapy, of horses, dogs, and cats to manage hundreds of animals. His empathy and compassion for animals allows him to communicate with them on a special level. It was his passion for animals that lead him to develop the Massage Awareness Method. His company, Massage Awareness Inc., is devoted to the education of people in the art and application of massage using the Massage Awareness Method, so in a natural way, they can actively participate in the fitness and well-being of their animal companion.
Jean Pierre's caring holistic approach, massage therapy expertise, and teaching has enabled animal lovers to develop and enjoy a healthier, happier, more productive equine and canine friend. He has taught many animal lovers the world over with a variety of backgrounds including: veterinarians & veterinary technicians, physiotherapists, massage therapists, farriers, breeders, trainers, competitive and recreational horseback riders and dog owners, groomers, handlers, obedience and agility competitors, owners and trainers of seeing eye dogs. Because of his unique talents and efforts in helping animals with massage, Jean Pierre has been interviewed on a number of TV and radio shows, and written about in newspapers and magazines throughout Canada and the United States. In January 1997, his first book "Equine Massage, A Practical Guide", published by Howell Book House, New York, was made available to horse enthusiasts around the world. It was Howell's Equine Library best selling book in 1997. Due to its popularity, it is available in five languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Russian). Today it is available in its second revised edition through the Howell Equestrian Library, An Imprint of Wiley Publishing, Inc., New Jersey. This book is the foundation of his popular equine massage therapy home-study course package that includes book, dvd, workbook and posters.
His second book, "Canine Massage, A Practical Guide" was made available to dog lovers in April 1999, with the same publisher. This book was nominated for an award at the 1999 Writing Competition of the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) in the Care & Health Book Division. This book available in four languages: English, French, Japanese, and Finish. Also, now available, Canine Massage, A Complete Reference Manual, published by Dogwise Publishing as a second revised edition.

In the first part of 2008, Jean-Pierre has published two new titles with the Howell Equestrian Library, An Imprint of Wiley Publishing, Inc.
