🚨 Behind the Scenes in Large Animal Care! 🩺 🐄

When duty calls, our team is ready to jump into action wherever needed! Here, Dr. Walther is carefully preparing his surgical site in the barn to treat a Right Displaced Abomasum (RDA) with Torsion- a critical condition in cattle that requires swift surgical intervention.

An RDA torsion occurs when the cow’s stomach (the abomasum) fills with gas, shifts out of its normal position to the right side of the abdomen, and twists. This cuts off circulation and digestive flow, making fast diagnosis and surgical correction vital to saving the animals life.

Dr. Walther shaved, prepped, and sanitized the flank area to maintain a clean field before performing the procedure to untwist and secure the stomach back in its proper place.

Today we’re shining the spotlight on Rose, one of our wonderful veterinary assistants. 🐾 💜 Rose has been part of the Wellington Veterinary Clinic team since 2016, and we are so grateful for all the kindness, compassion, and helpfulness she brings to our team and our patients.

Although Rose is part-time, she is a truly valued part of our Wellington family. When she’s not here helping care for our patients, you can usually find her at home raising her babies and tending to her farm. 🐴 🐐 🌼
