Canine Influenza update:
Some of you may have heard about the recent report of an outbreak of canine Influenza at a local shelter in Palm Beach County. Canine Influenza is a highly contagious virus that can cause a range of symptoms, including cough, fever, lethargy, sneezing, and eye or nasal discharge. Most dogs (~80%) that are exposed will develop symptoms. This virus only affects dogs. Dogs at high risk of infection include those who attend daycare, boarding, grooming salons and dog parks. A vaccine is available, which can prevent or reduce the severity of illness.
As your pet’s veterinarian, we are here to answer any questions that you may have, or if you are interested in vaccinating your pets against Canine Influenza, we do carry the vaccine. Please be aware that if your pet has not previously been vaccinated for influenza, the vaccine will need to be boostered again in 3 weeks.
