How many shelters should one dog have to go through before someone finally gives him a chance?

Meet Lyles. 💛

This happy, energetic boy has spent much of his life in the shelter system. Before coming to Lifeline, he had already been through two other shelters, and somehow he continues to be overlooked.

We’re hoping to change that.

Lyles is the kind of dog who’s always ready for an adventure. Whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood, a trip to a dog-friendly restaurant, an afternoon at an outdoor patio, or a weekend exploring somewhere new, he’s ready to be your sidekick.

He’s playful, full of personality, and has done well with the other dogs we’ve introduced him to so far. While proper introductions are always important, we think he’d love having a canine friend to play with.

What we’d really love is for someone to take Lyles on a foster sleepover. Not only would it give him a much-needed break from shelter life, but it would also help us learn more about who he is outside of a kennel environment.

After spending so much of his life in shelters, Lyles deserves the chance to finally experience what it’s like to be part of a family.

You asked, and we listened.

For the month of June, we’re making a change to our weekly PetSmart dog adoption events and moving them to the PetSmart in League City located at:

📍 1921 Gulf Freeway, Dickinson, TX 77539

We’ll also be adjusting the event hours to 12 PM – 4 PM.

We’re going to trial this location and timeframe throughout June, gather feedback, review the results, and determine the best long-term setup for our adoptable dogs, volunteers, and community.

Our goal is always simple: get more eyes on our dogs and help more pets find loving homes.

And speaking of helping dogs…

We’re still looking for at least three volunteers for tomorrow’s event and 2 people for transport!

Whether you’d like to walk dogs, chat with potential adopters, help with setup, or simply spend time loving on our pups, we’d love to have you join us.

Interested in volunteering?

Apply here:

We can’t wait to see how this new location works out and hopefully help even more dogs find their forever families. 🐾💛

If your dog has been asking for a best friend, Chester would like to submit his application. 🐾

At just 1 year old, Chester is a happy, playful guy who loves to run, play, and make new dog friends. He’s the kind of dog who brings joy wherever he goes and is always ready for his next adventure.

Looking for a companion for your current dog? Chester has enjoyed making canine friends and could be the perfect addition to your pack.

He’s still young enough to enjoy all the fun that comes with puppyhood, but old enough to be past some of the chaos. What he really wants is a family of his own where he can play, learn, and spend his days being loved.

Not ready to adopt? Chester would also love a foster or sleepover home. Getting out of the shelter, even for a short time, helps us learn more about his personality and gives him a much-needed break from kennel life.

🚨 Senior Foster Needed 🚨

Meet Bella and Teddy. 💛

These sweet seniors recently came to us from Galveston Island after being owner surrendered, and we’re looking for a foster home where they can decompress and enjoy some comfort while they search for their next chapter.

While they’re estimated to be around 7 years old, we suspect they may actually be a little older.

The good news? They have already proven themselves to be excellent houseguests. Their previous foster reports that they did not chew, destroy, or get into anything they shouldn’t have. They’re simply looking for a soft place to land.

Bella is especially people-oriented and would happily spend all day by your side if given the chance. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who wants to be wherever you are, Bella is your girl.

Senior dogs are often overlooked in shelters, but they’re some of the easiest pets to foster. They’re past the puppy stage, already know how to relax, and just want a safe place to call home.

Can you help Bella and Teddy?

Something wasn’t right with Star.

After going into foster care to recover from a severe head wound caused by flystrike, Star’s foster noticed he was having trouble walking. He appeared wobbly, would lift one of his legs awkwardly, and occasionally lose his balance.

That observation prompted another veterinary visit.

What veterinarians discovered was concerning.

Star is suffering from severe constipation, causing his colon to become nearly four times larger than it should be. While X-rays thankfully showed no broken bones, veterinarians suspect there may be nerve damage affecting his ability to function normally, possibly the result of trauma he experienced before entering rescue.

Today, Star will be sedated so his veterinary team can manually remove the impacted stool and relieve the pressure on his colon. He’ll then begin additional medications as we monitor whether he can regain normal bowel function on his own.

The good news is that Star is eating, healing, and continuing to fight. The difficult part is that we still have a lot of unanswered questions about what caused these issues and what his long-term needs may be.

Cases like Star’s are why rescue is so important, but they’re also why rescue can be expensive. Medical care, diagnostics, medications, and follow-up treatment add up quickly.

If you’d like to help support Star’s care, donations can be made at:

www.lifelinetx.org/donate

Please put “Star” in the memo so we can direct your donation toward his medical expenses.

We’ll continue sharing updates as we learn more. Thank you for helping us give Star the chance he deserves.

🚨 Foster Homes Needed 🚨

We’re currently over capacity and need THREE separate foster homes for three very deserving girls. 💛

🐶 Lucy – Puppy foster needed
🐶 Jude – Puppy foster needed
🐱 Pickles – Kitten foster needed

Pickles is eating wet food on her own but will need medication while she continues recovering. Lucy and Jude would both benefit from getting out of the shelter and into a home environment where they can decompress, learn, and just be puppies.

Right now, our puppy fosters are especially needed. Lucy and Jude are currently being housed in pop-up kennels because we’re out of space, and we’d love to get them into homes as soon as possible.

We want to give a huge shoutout to our friends at Bayou Animal Services.

In animal welfare, it’s easy to focus on the challenges, and there are certainly many. But it’s equally important to celebrate the shelters that are leading the way, and Bayou Animal Services is one of them.

Bayou consistently maintains a live release rate above 90% while continuing to focus on fast placements, strong community engagement, and expanding their ability to help more animals. They have built a culture that prioritizes lifesaving while never losing sight of the pets and people they serve.

One thing we want to make clear: when Lifeline transfers pets from Bayou, it is not because those pets are at risk of euthanasia. In fact, that’s one of the things we admire most about their organization. We partner with Bayou because every pet we take into our program creates additional space and resources for them to help the next animal in need.

This is what collaboration looks like.

Bayou focuses on providing excellent municipal shelter services, and we step in where our programs can add capacity. Right now that’s typically taking neonatal kittens, foster placement, adoption marketing, or helping pets find homes as quickly as possible.

The pets entering our local shelters are wonderful animals deserving of a chance. Bayou Animal Services is an incredible example of what a municipal shelter can be, and we are proud to support them however we can. We are proud to support all our shelter partners as we continue working together to save more lives.
