Housekeeping , Supplies & Weather
Hey guys, I wanted to touch on a few things. It might seem like this is a rant, but I think that some people just don’t know, to the kids that ride on the regular it’s a rant.
Attire. Appropriate riding attire are riding pants, and a fitted shirt that is tucked in with a belt. I can overlook the belt. The reason is the hip plays a very important role in riding. We cannot instruct people properly without being able to see the hip. So please no baggy shirts no blankets tied around bodies, no sweatpants. Jackets of course are welcomed.
Crocs are not allowed at the barn. I continue to see them, it is a safety hazard. I’m happy to text people individually pictures of what happens when you get stepped on, and you do not have proper shoes on around horses . When I see kids come to the barn in inappropriate attire it says to me that I am here to play and socialize, and not here to progress and learn.
Play is very important in the social dynamic of the barn is a key component to the joy here, but the place for it is not during riding lessons
Winter riding attire. Dressing and layers is definitely the way to go. When I ride in the winter, I usually wear a long sleeve a vest or a fleece. Riding gloves are necessary in the winter period. I will be happy to put some links on the page and will be available for guidance if needed. I also have some helmet covers that are fleece and cover the ears. They were great. I will put a link on this page.
Weather. We are governed by the weather, I will cancel Lessons if I feel like the safety of the kids could be compromised. I will ask for understanding from all parents on this. If there is a dramatic temperature decrease or if it is extremely windy, I will sometimes cancel the beginner lessons. The reason is that Horses get a little goofy in the wind. Their hearing is their strongest sense and it is compromised when it is very windy. We like cooler weather. If we ever have lessons and you feel that it is too cold for your child, we totally understand if you want to keep them home. We also are happy to do some shifting around if we have availability to accommodate better riding conditions. Typically winter is one of the best times to ride here in Texas, in my opinion!
24 hour cancellation policy. We are extremely understanding if there are personal things that interfere with your lesson. Family and important events are very important to us. We just asked that if you need to make a change, you let us know more than 24 hours in advance. If not, we will have to charge you for a lesson.
Tuition payments. If you are paying for Lessons individually, all tuition payments must be made on Sunday before the upcoming week. If we have tentative lessons, and they are not paid on Sunday, I will assume that you were not planning on riding. All monthly tuition payments are due on the first unless other arrangements have been made.
Supplies. If the kids are in lessons and jumping, I would like for them to have their own set of brushes, and whips. I will put some links up here on this page to help with guidance. If your child owns their own horse, I expect them to have their own whip. I feel like that my whips are disposable and I have to buy new ones every month. This is silly.
To people that lease or own their own horse. It is important that you have a lunge line , and a lunge whip. As well as your own supplies, that being brushes and crops. I’m happy to let the kids use our saddle pads, we have 1 million, and it’s more fun to be able to use all different colors.!
OK, gang rant over. Just some areas I would like to streamline so we can provide better service for our riders, help them grow, and have more resources to be able to do fun things!!!
You guys are the best.
