It’s Teaching Tuesday, and today we’re talking about two of your pet’s least favorite houseguests: fleas and ticks.

These tiny pests can cause BIG problems for your pets — and your home.

Here’s why prevention is SO important:

🪰 Fleas can cause:
• Intense itching, hair loss, and skin infections
• Allergic reactions (flea allergy dermatitis)
• Tapeworms (yes, from licking and chewing!)
• Infestations in your home — they multiply FAST

🕷️ Ticks can spread:
• Lyme disease
• Ehrlichiosis
• Anaplasmosis
• And other serious illnesses, some of which can be life-threatening

💡 Even Indoor Pets Are at Risk

You don’t have to hike through the woods to bring in a flea or tick. They can sneak in on:
✔️ Your shoes or clothes
✔️ Other pets
✔️ Wildlife in your yard
✔️ Grooming visits

✅ The Good News? Prevention Is Easy.

✔️ Use monthly flea & tick prevention — consistently, year-round
✔️ Choose vet-recommended products that are proven safe & effective
✔️ Treat all pets in your household
✔️ Avoid over-the-counter products from big box stores or gas stations (they’re not all created equal!)

🧼 If you see fleas or ticks on your pet: Don’t panic — but do call us. We’ll help you treat it effectively and prevent it from happening again.

📞 Have questions about what’s best for your pet? We’ll help you choose the right product and make a plan to keep your pets protected.

Meet Fat Fannie Frannie — a tiny black kitten with a BIG comeback story 🖤🎀🐈‍⬛

She was found in the middle of Fort Worth Highway, battling a nasty eye infection and loaded with parasites… but this little survivor wasn’t about to give up. Thanks to lots of love and care, Fat Fannie Frannie is now healthy, happy, and absolutely thriving.

🖤 Viral tested negative
🖤 Getting her 2nd FVRCP vaccine this week
🖤 SUPER social, playful, and dog-friendly
🖤 Loves people, toys, and being the center of attention

Even though she’s a black kitten, the only thing scary about her… is how ridiculously cute she is. 💅🕷️ She’s affectionate, spunky, and would love a forever home where she can cuddle up, chase toys, and maybe boss your dog around just a little.

She’s currently being fostered at Parker County Veterinary Hospital — come meet her, fall in love, and take home your new best friend.

🐶🔥 Hot Weather Pet Safety

☀️ It’s HOT out there, y’all! Let’s keep those fur babies safe in this Texas heat.
Here are a few reminders to help your pets stay cool, comfy, and out of the ER:

🌀 Never leave pets in parked cars – not even for a minute. Temps can rise over 100° in seconds!
🐾 Check the pavement – if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.
💧 Hydration is key – fresh, cool water available at all times, please and thank you!
🏡 Limit outdoor time – early mornings and late evenings are safest for walks and play.
🧊 Cool zones – fans, AC, frozen treats, and shady spots = summer essentials.
🚨 Know the signs of heatstroke – heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting. If you see it, CALL US.

💬 Questions? Concerns? Just want to show us a picture of your dog in sunglasses?
We’re here. We’re obsessed with your pets. And we take summer safety seriously. 😎🌡️

The Erath County Humane Society found themselves in a dire situation yesterday, as the shelter was completlety flooded and they had nowhere to put dogs to get them out of the rain and mud. We did what we could to help by taking in 4 puppies to foster until the ground dries out. These 4 babies have settled in quickly and have the funniest, sweetest personalities. With everything they are having to deal with in this current situation along with being constantly overcapacity, how wonderful would it be if we could find these cuties a home and not have to send them back to the shelter?!? ❤️

Tammy and Wanda are approximately 12 week old female mixes that are as wild as they are lovable. They have been started on puppy vaccines and have a sponsor to cover the cost of the rest of the series.

Goober is an approximately 5 month old Border Collie mix that lives up to his name completely! He is the silliest of the bunch for sure! He will be neutered tomorrow and all of his vaccines are also covered.

Clark is an approximately 6 month old neutered male Boxer mix that is as sweet as they come. He does have some puppy in him, but while the others are romping, he would rather be in your lap getting smooches.

All puppies are current on heartworm, flea, and tick prevention.

If you are interested in meeting any of these sweeties please contact the clinic!

Spring is here! And with that comes a warning about Leptospirosis, a disease caused by infection with Leptospira bacteria.

All dogs are at risk of leptospirosis, regardless of age, breed, lifestyle, geographic location, time of year, and other factors. The following situations can increase that risk:

➡Exposure to or drinking from slow-moving or stagnant water sources, like ponds, rivers, lakes, or streams
➡ Roaming on rural properties (because of exposure to potentially infected wildlife or farm animals or urine-contaminated water sources)
➡ Exposure to wild animals (especially rodents) or farm animals, even if in the backyard
➡ Contact with other dogs (such as in urban areas, dog parks, or boarding or training facilities)
