it Finals and the Prairie Circuit Finals. Winning at both ends of the arena-rough stock and timed events-led to Phil winning the coveted Linderman Award in 1989. In addition to providing the training and discipline to get both horse and rider ready for top-level competition, Phil has developed his own unique colt starting program that consists of developing a horse/rider relationship based on trust and respect, which establishes a strong set of fundamentals. He has had over 1500 horses in training with an Equistat earnings of over $1,000,000. Phil and his family currently reside at the Haugen Training Facility in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Whether at home, in the rodeo arena, or at a clinic near you, each of Phil's experiences contribute to and reinforce his philosophy of "Training through understanding".

I’ve always said that success comes when preparation and opportunity intersect.

The hard truth about horsemanship—and life—is that sometimes you can do all the right things in your preparation, but if the opportunity isn’t there, it may simply not be your season to succeed.

That doesn’t mean you failed—it just means the timing wasn’t right for your preparation to meet the opportunity.

Remember, preparation is never wasted—it’s laying the groundwork so you’re ready to step into success when the right opportunity arrives.

Success in competition doesn’t come from wishing or expecting. It comes from preparation—and part of that preparation is hauling, entering, and putting yourself in real-world situations often enough to build confidence.

Grateful to Kallie and Kayla for bringing so many good people together in support of such a meaningful cause. This industry is full of salt-of-the-earth folks, and it was a privilege to be among them.

Well, it finally happened. After almost 300 weeks in a row of putting out new podcasts, I missed one. And you know what? I'm pretty proud that we made it that far.

But here's the thing—missing a week doesn’t mean the streak is broken for good. It just means it's time to start again.
