And that’s a wrap on the pullet season!

All of our lovely babies and a few older hens (with lots of life still in them) have found new coops for this year. We are thrilled to help new chicken keepers and seasoned chicken tenders alike add happy, healthy chickens to their coops!

We have some exciting things happening this winter, but hatching won’t start again until February.

Thank you thank you thank you to all of our wonderful customers!

Every time I put food we grew on our plates, I am filled with gratitude.

Our rabbits did not “breed like rabbits” at the beginning. It was trial and error.

We’ve finally got some great stock that is producing lovely litters. We’ve sent some off to new homes this year, and kept some back to add to our breeding program.

The remainder are headed to freezer camp (and the canning jars) and tonight we had the most delicious rabbit legs in a mustard and shallot sauce. Served with some outstanding potatoes from Forest Fed Farmstead.

I dreamed of raising my own food for so long, sometimes I have to pinch myself that I get to live this life.

One of my goals for this summer vacation (our sister company, Boppy's Bakery is closed for the week)was to finish reading this book. I highly recommend for anyone who loves fiber in any form.

Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing the ways we work with fiber here and how I’m expanding my skills in this area.

Much to my husband’s dismay, I’m inspired to have a better fiber workspace. Which means changing up 3 different rooms in our home, along with some furniture in and out:) Stay tuned for scouring, tanning, spinning and dyeing!

Satisfying dinner! Our own rabbits and asparagus. This recipe is a creamy mustard sauce and I think I’ll can some legs in the sauce for the next round.

Our silver fox rabbits have provided an excellent, low maintenance source of nutrients for us.

In just a few weeks, we will have the next batch, and we are breeding again this weekend.

So grateful to grow our own food! We processed 4 rabbits. 3 made several packages of dinners for us, and one made dinner for our raw fed golden retrievers. Plus rabbit stock is simmering away in the crockpot.

If you look real close you’ll see one of our first egg hunts of the year:)

As soon as it feels the least bit like spring, the chickens start laying in every nook and cranny all over the farm.

We will be searching high and low for them nesting in various spots so we don’t lose the eggs to the nighttime freezing temps, or the bellies of the puppies.

First time breeding this lovely silver fox doe we purchased from Holistic Health and Home at the Farm right here in NH. Tough to see her nice silvering in this photo, but she’s stunning. More importantly, she’s a high quality rabbit.

I’ve only been raising meat rabbits for a few years and I still have a lot to learn. After getting to know Marie and her practices a bit, I decided to uplevel my meat rabbit game. So worth it.

We bred 5 does not knowing we’d have this massive heat wave. We have 2 proven does, 2 of our own young mixed does and this new doe from Marie.

Our proven does had small litters and we lost a couple from each mama.

One of our new does didn’t take.

The other new doe had 4, we lost 2 and then realized she wasn’t feeding them.

Juniper, our doe from Marie, has 6 healthy, fat babies. She is hot like the rest of us, but not stressed in this heat. She’s not only a great mama, but we gave her the 2 foster babies that she took and they are already looking healthier 24 hours later.

If you are raising rabbits or interested in getting started, it’s well worth getting rabbits from reputable breeders. I highly recommend Marie, we will be getting more breeding stock from her in the future.

Keep following along - I can’t wait to see how these babies grow!

This sweet mama has been sitting on eggs in a nest she made in our woodshed. 3 little chicks joined our farm in the best way possible. I love it that this is a place that our animals can do as nature intended:)

This lady is a black copper maran that we hatched last season. She hasn’t been named yet, but definitely deserves a special one. Who wants to help me name her?

Our first hatch of the year was really successful and those babies are now 14 weeks old, sexed, and we have a few available. We are a holistically based, soy free farm. The hens are a mixed flock and were covered (the rooster) with a buff Orpington. Located in Weare, NH.

Tonight’s dinner on the farm: pizza made with leftover sourdough from this week’s bakes.

Topped with red sauce, various shredded cheeses, and a bucket of toppings. Grass fed steak, my own canned caramelized onions, peppers, pickles, black olives and banana peppers. About a third with just pepperoni to use it up.

This only took a few minutes to throw together because most of the components were on my shelf. Also, defrosting hack for those of you that don’t have a microwave (like me) I put the steak in my instant pot with a little marinade for 5 minutes. Defrosted and par cooked - then finished in a cast iron skillet in just a couple minutes.

This also serves as my batch cooking for the week. It’ll fill in meals that I don’t have time to cook while I’m baking.

What kinds of things do you batch cook?
