Second ride on Boon complete. Got her into a trot. She did buck a little not to bad. Glad to have young bones this week though.

Boons first ride. This was much better than expected. We do like them uneventful though. We want good horses leaving here not injured trainers.

My son helping me out today, sitting on Boon for the first time. I forgot a step in training but we got through it well. Easily fixable but not absolutely necessary.

First calves getting drug on Cherokee. She was not sure about the cattle to start with but did well considering.

We stepped up in the sturrip on Boon for the first time today. She takes things well, and really seems to want to be good. We're still working on softness and stopping. Not happy with that yet. Although there's big improvement there also.

An old chevy hood, a couple of kids and a young horses learning to drag. What could go wrong? Here's Cherokee agian. The kids thought they were supposed to be quiet, so it didn't go as planned. We're getting ready to drag calves. Who drags quiet calves?

Well a new experience for us at WWR. Normally we help work cattle, but Brune Farm's called for help cutting pigs so here it is.
WARNING It's loud 🤣

Boon is learning whoa, which means stop and stand still until given direction. She's still a little humpy under saddle, but we're not getting on her until May so she's got time to get used to it. All I need her to do now is understand whoa!

Cherokee drawing a barrel for the first time. Planning to drag calves on her in april.

03/10/2025

Cherokee's first time out on the hills. I'm impressed with her willingness. She doesn't even fight it to much.

Boons 2nd time under saddle, day 6 much better. Still have a ways to go, but I think she's gonna be a good one. She's smart, picking up quickly, and got the looks as well. She not ready to ride yet so we have time to build on this foundation correctly.

Boons first time under saddle!!

03/01/2025

Today we'll introduce Rudy. This is his first time in the round pen starting to learn ground work and a little respect as a yearling.

02/28/2025

We're introducing Royal today. He's just a yearling but we're starting to desensatize him. He's not liking it, and really skittish on the ground. Great news is we have a year to work through it!

I posted about Boons day 3 yesterday. I thought I had her video and reynies in the post. It didn't take hers, so here's Boons introduction to the saddle pad. As I said she took it really well. She actually never flinched at it.

02/25/2025

Day three went well for boon. We introduced the saddle pad for the first time! Still figuring out lunging, but we can work on that as we learn new things along the way.
We started working on reynie as well she's just a yearling, but we like to teach ground work as early as possible. This way we can take more time to get it ingrained in their head. And maybe a little more time to correct if needed.
