If you have an anxious dog prone to bolting, or care for dogs that may wiggle out of their collars due to fear, here is a tip!

The right equipment matters, and without directly using the slip lead on a dog we can still maintain control. The dog I’m working with today is terrified of thunderstorms, and it is of course our luck it will continue storming through the day. Using a thin, lightweight slip lead, attached to the dog and clipped to the collar can help maintain control even if she were to back out of her collar. This set up can put handlers and owners at ease in the event avoidance just isn’t an option for fearful dogs.

Watch Kyra work her new skills in Lowe’s! A sit, a down, and recall all with a happy pup! We can also talk about the jumping up 👀 why did I reinforce it by petting?

Kyra is a dog that is heavily reinforced by her environment. Smells, people, other dogs and new objects are often worth more to her, so how do I fix it? I make myself even more fun!

I can correct the jumping later, but I want her to have so much value in her handler that she wants to come to me, 100% of the time. So if getting tons of praise and love and a little up close and personal means she loves working for me, I’ll call it an even trade for now. We can build obedience later, always relationship first! ❤️

Does your pup struggle with fear, anxiety, or just a lack of confidence?

Agility can be a fantastic way to expose your puppy to new sights, textures, and heights. It can even help them learn how to maneuver their bodies in a more careful manner! Sometimes our pups forget they have back feet, and exercises like agility can truly help. Using lots of praise and treats, we can get pups to realize they can do so much more than they think- and it directly translates to their overall well being and confidence. Sadie here is proof of that, rocking her agility skills at the dog park! She’s even got her listening ears on! 🥰

Oh how pretty Miss Sadie is! Little girl is doing a great job with her heel, but that’s not quite what I’m working on. I’m specifically working on her engagement and confidence in new environments. Sometimes Sadie is a little freaked out in new places, which is normal for her age. So to combat it, we continue getting her out and about, making sure she gets as much positive exposure as possible!
