A little Sarge’s news that we’ve been quietly working toward…

Haywood Spay Neuter is moving in!

This October, Haywood Spay/Neuter, a program of Sarge’s providing low-cost spay and neuter services to Haywood County residents, will officially be moving into our building.

When we purchased our building last year, one of the biggest goals was creating more room to grow and giving Sarge’s and HSN the opportunity to operate under one roof. We’re getting closer to making that a reality, and we couldn’t be more excited about what it means for pets and their people in our community.

This week, Ian with Classic Handyman services donated his time and materials to help us create a lobby for HSN as we get ready for their October move-in. We’re incredibly grateful for people like Ian who see what we’re building here and are willing to roll up their sleeves and help make it happen.

One building, two programs, and even more ways to help keep pets healthy, happy, and home with the people who love them. October, we’re ready for you!

We can’t believe it’s already Saturday and almost September! Where did the summer go?

Our cats have had a pretty great month watching their friends head home, but they’re starting to wonder when it’s going to be THEIR turn. We’ve got playful kittens, professional snuggle buddies, couch potatoes who take their lounging very seriously, sunbathers who know exactly where the best window spots are, and a few little troublemakers who believe life is more fun with a bit of mischief.

They’ve been waiting patiently for their people to walk through the door. So if you’ve been thinking about adding a cat to your family, maybe this is your sign. Come meet the cats waiting for their happily ever after at Sarge’s!

Coming Soon: George!

At just over 100 pounds, George is a whole lot of dog with an even bigger personality. This Great Pyrenees mix is smart, playful, goofy, and always ready to make the most of his day, especially if treats are involved.

George has lived with dogs, cats, and kids in the past. He enjoys getting outside for some playtime, but at heart, George is much more of a house dog. He loves the comforts of home and would much rather be hanging out with his people than spending his days outside. Think big, fluffy companion who wants a little playtime, a lot of snacks, and a cozy spot to call his own.

George will be available for adoption soon, but he’s already ready to meet visitors at Sarge’s! Come say hello to this big, goofy boy and keep an eye out for more about George as he gets ready to find his forever home.

Meet Toe Bean!

Toe Bean is an 11-month-old orange boy who is basically a kitten trapped in a big boy body. He is social, playful, curious, and always ready to meet a new person. Whether he’s batting around his favorite toy, following you around, or chatting away about his day, Toe Bean wants to be where the action is!

Toe Bean was raised as an only cat before coming to Sarge’s, so he is still figuring out the finer points of being a cat. He has a tendency to throw in a little love bite when he gets excited or wants to interact, but he’s still learning that sometimes affection is better expressed without teeth. He’s an adolescent orange boy trying to figure out the world, and he needs someone who can give him patience, guidance, and appropriate outlets for all that youthful energy.

Toe Bean would do best with an experienced cat owner who can slowly introduce him to resident cats. A confident kitty who can help him learn proper cat etiquette could be a great match. He is a wonderful social boy who loves meeting new people, playing with his toys, and being by your side. He’s got plenty of personality, a few quirky habits, and lots of growing up left to do.

We are completely blown away by the continued support you’ve shown our Community Pet Pantry. Because of you, our shelves are stocked with essentials to help keep pets in our community fed and with their families.

Right now, our dog food shelves are looking great, but our cat food supply is basically EMPTY. Cat food is donated far less often, while the need for cat food from community members is typically even higher. And our dry cat food disappears FAST.

If you can help, we are especially in need of both wet and dry cat food, with dry food being our biggest ongoing need. Donations can be brought directly to Sarge’s or ordered through our wishlist and shipped straight to us.

Let’s show the cats in our community a little extra love! Donate cat food and help us keep our Community Pet Pantry stocked for the pets who need it most.

Bonnie and Ed have spent their entire lives together, and at this point, they’ve got their partnership down to a science.

Bonnie handles security. Ed handles public relations. Bonnie has the resting grumpy face of someone who has just been informed that the meeting could have been an email, while Ed is the friendly little sidekick who is always nearby to rub on your legs, join the fun, and keep things moving. Together, they make quite the team.

But Bonnie’s face is absolutely not an accurate reflection of her feelings. Under that permanently unimpressed expression is a total sweetheart who has really come out of her shell in foster care. She loves pets, affection, treats, and playing with the resident dogs and cats. Ed is equally ready for action and can usually be found getting involved in playtime, soliciting leg rubs, or conducting very important inspections of the food situation.

These two have spent their entire lives together, so separating them simply isn’t an option. They’re a package deal, complete with matching history, complementary personalities, and enough entertainment to keep their future humans smiling. They’ve waited a long time for a home of their own, and now they’re ready to trade shelter life for sunny windows, cozy naps, toys, treats, and a family to call theirs.

Bonnie will probably look like she’s judging your decorating choices. Ed will probably forgive you. Together, they’ll keep you company, keep you laughing, and make your home feel a whole lot more like home. All they need is someone willing to take a chance on two cats who have never known life without each other.

Kyle has figured out that you really don’t need much to have a good day.

Give this 6-year-old, 50-pound hound mix a patch of grass and he’ll happily spend some time sunbathing, rolling around, and taking in all the good smells. Give him a toy and he’ll turn it into an afternoon activity. Tell him we’re going for a car ride and he’s ready to go. And when the day winds down, Kyle is perfectly happy to settle in and enjoy some quiet time with his people.

He’s playful, curious, loves learning, and does well with other dogs. He’s also got plenty of hound charm without needing to be the center of attention every second. Kyle would be thrilled with a home that lets him enjoy the little things: time outside, toys scattered around the yard, adventures in the car, and a comfortable place to relax afterward.

Kyle isn’t a puppy, and he doesn’t need to be. At six years old, he’s got plenty of life and fun left to give, with a personality that’s already settled into the dog he’s meant to be.

He’s just waiting for someone to notice how much there is to love about a good, happy, grass-rolling, toy-playing, car-riding hound named Kyle.
