Apache is Back & Looking for His Match 🖤

Apache, our 8-year-old German Shepherd, was recently adopted but returned when the fit wasn’t quite right. That hasn’t stopped him from waiting patiently for the person (or couple) who will truly be his forever.

Apache is loyal, smart, and protective by nature — qualities that shine brightest in a calm, adult-only home. He gets along well with other dogs and would love an owner who understands the breed and can guide him with confidence.

Right now, Apache is working closely with our behavior team and trainer Caitlin from Behavior Tails, LLC - Dog Training & Behavior Consulting. And when he finally meets his people, Caitlin will personally provide a training session to help everyone start off strong.

Apache isn’t just looking for a home. He’s looking for a partnership, with someone who values his devotion and is ready to give him the structure he thrives on.

We get asked a lot: “How do you not take them all home?” Honestly… sometimes we do!

On July 25, Tito (now W***y) came to Sarge’s from Haywood County Animal Shelter as a 7-month-old Husky mix. From the start, he showed he was friendly, well-behaved during his medical checkup, and a total rockstar in playgroups with other dogs.

During his decompression period, one of our staff members got a little… attached. Okay, maybe a lot attached. They became inseparable — the ultimate human-dog duo. Lucky for W***y, he went home with that special person and found his forever family.

But just because he’s adopted doesn’t mean he’s off the clock! W***y now moonlights as a Sarge’s helper dog — showing new pups the ropes, helping with playgroup etiquette, and keeping our rowdiest dogs in check.

W***y proves that sometimes the best part of rescue isn’t just finding a forever home — it’s the adventures that continue long after. 🐾

We love sharing these stories to show off what our Sarge’s alumni are up to in their lives after adoption — because every adoption is just the beginning of an amazing journey!

As we get ready to welcome new furry faces, these items are a huge help. Freeze-dried treats (great for both cats and dogs!) and jerky-style goodies keep our pets motivated, happy, and eager to learn. Three fabulous felines are looking for their forever homes at Sarge’s and they all have sponsored adoption fees!

This sweet girl is blossoming more every day. Playful, cuddly, and always ready for pets, Ivy is growing into the perfect little companion.

✨ Simba – 3 years old
An XL tabby with an XL personality! Simba is vocal, affectionate, snack-motivated, and absolutely loves attention. He just needs to stay on his urinary diet to keep feeling his best.

✨ Twinkle Toes – 1 year old
This dilute calico beauty is a true lovebug. She enjoys being held, perching on shoulders, and showing off her affectionate side. She also has a secret playful streak! Twinkle Toes has an autoimmune condition and takes medication every other day (around $60/month) to stay healthy and comfortable.

Three incredible dogs are waiting at Sarge’s for their chance at forever and all of their adoption fees are sponsored!

🌟 Fork is a 2.5-year-old Black & Tan Hound with the best mix of goofy charm and smarts. He’s playful, active, easygoing, and always ready to make you laugh.

🌟 Roxy, our 6-year-old Bulldog mix, is affectionate, funny, and loves to be the center of attention. She’d thrive as the only pet in the home and is currently soaking up love in foster care.

🌟 Captain Jack Sparrow is an 11-month-old Heeler mix who lives for adventure. Playful, snuggly, and always on the move—he’s the perfect buddy for an active family.

At 3 years old, Simba is ready to rule his future kingdom (aka your living room). He came to us from our friends at SAVES after they helped him through a mild urinary blockage. Now, with just a simple prescription diet (around $30/month), he’s feeling great and living life to the fullest.

But Simba is so much more than his food plan. He’s funny, talkative, and full of personality. He’s also a surprisingly good sport about playing dress-up, making him larger-than-life in every way. Best of all? Simba is friendly with cats, kids, and could even do well in a home with dogs.

SAVES will provide his adopter with the prescription, making it easy to keep this charming guy healthy and happy.

Our birthday girl Dolly just turned 7 last week, and she’s convinced this is going to be her best year yet!

Dolly is playful, sweet, affectionate, and full of personality—she’ll even chat with you when she’s in the mood, because this girl has a lot to say.

At just 11 months old, this Heeler mix may be full-sized, but he’s still very much a puppy at heart. If there’s one thing Captain Jack Sparrow takes seriously, it’s play time! He loves romping around with his dog friends at Sarge’s, going for walks with volunteers, and never turns down the chance for a car ride adventure.

Captain Jack is smart, outgoing, and extremely food motivated—making training both fun and rewarding. Our team works with him daily to build up his skills, and he’s already mastering the basics like “sit,” and working on not jumping, and waiting patiently at doors.

He’s eager to keep learning, impress his future family, and most of all—share his goofy, affectionate personality. Jack is dog-friendly, does well around kids and adults, and is ready to set sail into his forever home.

Meet Ivy 🌿 This 8-month-old sweetheart has quite the story—she was first discovered tucked away in an engine bay before a kind person scooped her up and gave her the care she needed. Once she came to Sarge’s, Ivy received her vaccines, was spayed, and has been busy stealing the hearts of staff and volunteers.

Though she may be shy at first, Ivy quickly blossoms into a playful, affectionate little cat who’s ready to bring joy into her forever home.
