❄️ Canine Cough – Tis the Season! 🎄❄️
🐶 Canine cough shouldn’t be called Kennel Cough as it is a virus that can be pick up anywhere – even the air from car windows being down or sidewalks. It is a virus and is like the cold for humans. If your pup has underlying issues they should see a vet. Bentley’s does require the Bordetella vaccination for this virus, but even with the vaccination, dogs can still contract it. 😬
‼️ Things to watch for and keep your dogs home:
🐕 The classic symptom of canine cough is a persistent, forceful cough. It often sounds like a goose honk. This is distinct from a cough-like sound made by some dogs, especially little ones, which is called a reverse sneeze. Reverse sneezes can be normal in certain dogs and breeds, and usually only indicates the presence of post-nasal drip or a slight irritation of the throat.
🐾 Some dogs with canine cough may show other symptoms of illness, including sneezing, a runny nose, or eye discharge.
🐾 If your dog has canine cough, they probably will not lose their appetite nor have a decreased energy level.
🐾 This can last 1 to 3 weeks and they should be symptom free before being around other dogs.
🔔 If the staff at Bentley’s hears a dog coughing, we will call the owner to have them picked up immediately. While for most dogs it is like a common cold, we do not want to put ANY pups at risk. 🐶😍🎄
