Red mangroves don’t just grow along the coastline, they actually build it. Those tangled root systems trap sediment, stabilize shorelines, and create nursery habitat for juvenile fish. They’re one of the reasons I love sculpting them. Nature already did all the interesting design work. Link in bio.

Here’s something most people never think about when it comes to stamps and molds. Realistic texture isn’t just about the pattern you press into concrete.
It’s about understanding what makes a surface look like it actually belongs in nature.
Natural rock doesn’t have one uniform texture. It has fractures that catch light differently depending on angle. Edges worn smooth in some places and left sharp in others. Surfaces shaped by pressure, time, and the kind of random variation that a basic rubber stamp can’t replicate on its own.
Creating molds that capture that complexity is a skill. You have to know which details matter, which ones read from a distance, and how to build a stamp that gives you consistent results without looking machine-made.
The good news is that none of this requires a professional background. It requires the right information and a willingness to experiment.
Richard Winget has spent thirty years figuring out what works in the field, and he’s put that knowledge into a full library of instructional videos available at carve-right.com. Everything from mold making to texturing to color application, broken down so you can learn it on your own time and apply it to your own projects.

You don’t need a construction background to build a rockwork feature that looks completely real.
You need to understand how natural stone gets its color. Where shadow collects. How moisture changes a surface over time. What weathering actually does to exposed rock and how to fake it convincingly with pigment and technique.
Richard Winget has spent 30 years mastering this on professional installations at zoos, theme parks, and resorts. He can teach you the fundamentals in three days.
May 28-30. Waynesboro, VA. Six spots. All materials included. $1,500 per person.
This is a skillset that changes what you think is possible in your own outdoor space.

Here’s something most people never think about. The reason artificial rockwork looks fake isn’t the texture. It’s the color. Or more precisely, it’s the relationship between the two that nobody bothered to figure out before picking up a brush.
Natural stone doesn’t have one color. It has layers of color built up over years of weather, moisture, mineral movement, and biological growth. Shadow behaves differently on a fractured face than on a smooth one. A surface that’s been rained on a thousand times looks nothing like one that’s been baking in direct sun.
Matching that isn’t magic. It’s observation. And once you know what to look for, you can recreate it in concrete, in your own backyard, on your own timeline.
Richard Winget teaches exactly this. Thirty years of professional installations, distilled into three days of hands-on instruction in Waynesboro, VA.
May 28-30. Six spots. $1,500 includes all materials.

Most backyard water features and rock installations look fake. Not because the materials are wrong. Because nobody taught the builder how real stone actually behaves.
Shadow pools in the low spots. Ridges bleach out where weather hits them hardest. Minerals leave streaks. Moss creeps into the cool, damp places and shifts the whole color story. Every piece of real rock is a record of time and exposure. When you understand that, you stop guessing and start building features that genuinely fool the eye.
That’s exactly what this three-day workshop is about.
Richard Winget has been doing this professionally for 30 years across zoos, theme parks, and resort properties worldwide. He knows where beginners go wrong and how to fix it fast. You’ll work with real materials, get direct feedback, and leave with a skillset most people don’t even know exists.
May 28-30, Waynesboro, VA. Hands-on instruction. All materials included. $1,500 per person. Six spots total.
If you’ve ever wanted to build something in your yard that looks like nature put it there, this is where you start.
