Over the years, I have occasionally been asked to groom pregnant dogs or provide services for breeding programs. I wanted to take a moment to explain my personal policies and the values behind them.
First and foremost, I do not groom pregnant dogs. Grooming can be physically and emotionally stressful for any dog, and pregnancy already places significant demands on a dog’s body. Standing for extended periods, handling, bathing, drying, and the general stress of a grooming appointment can create unnecessary risks and discomfort for an expectant mother. Out of concern for the health and well-being of both the mother and her puppies, I choose not to provide grooming services during pregnancy.
I also do not work with casual, backyard, or irresponsible breeding programs. I strongly support responsible, ethical breeding practices that prioritize the health, temperament, and long-term welfare of dogs. Ethical breeders invest in appropriate health testing, including OFA evaluations and breed-specific genetic testing, carefully select breeding stock, and are committed to improving their breed rather than simply producing puppies.
That said, I want to be very clear: I respect every owner’s decision regarding where their dog comes from. Whether your dog is purebred, mixed breed, adopted from a shelter or rescue, or purchased from a breeder, every dog that comes through my door is treated with the same kindness, patience, and quality of care. A dog’s worth is never determined by its pedigree or origin.
My grooming business reflects my personal values, and I believe in surrounding myself with people and organizations that share similar commitments to animal welfare and ethical practices. For that reason, I choose not to support breeding practices that I believe put profit ahead of the health and well-being of dogs.
If you are considering adding a dog to your family and have questions about finding a responsible, ethical breeder, I am always happy to help point you in the right direction and answer questions about what health testing, genetic screening, and responsible breeding practices look like.
Thank you for your understanding and support. ❤️
