We loved Rex (Diesel) and watching him on the show and were so sad to hear that he had crossed the rainbow bridge. Run free wonderful boy.
"The world has lost a true four-legged star. Diesel vom Burgimwald, the German Shepherd who brought the brilliant and charismatic police dog Rex to life on the hit series *Hudson & Rex*, has passed away from late-stage cancer. His trainer and lifelong companion, Sherri Davis, confirmed his passing, marking the end of an era for fans of the show and admirers of his extraordinary talent.
Born and bred for excellence, Diesel was more than just a television icon—he was a working dog with an impeccable sense of loyalty, intelligence, and heart. His portrayal of Rex captivated audiences, turning him into an irreplaceable presence in homes across Canada, the U.S., and beyond. Whether tracking down criminals, comforting his partner Detective Charlie Hudson (John Reardon), or simply exuding an undeniable charm, Diesel made *Hudson & Rex* what it was: a show that celebrated the unbreakable bond between man and dog.
Off-screen, Diesel was equally remarkable. He wasn’t just a performer but a companion who brought joy to everyone he encountered. He made visits to children’s hospitals, won over police and service dog handlers with his skill, and created an indelible impact on all who had the pleasure of meeting him. His soulful eyes, expressive ears, and unwavering devotion made him more than a canine actor—he was a legend.
Though Diesel has crossed the rainbow bridge, his legacy endures. In a fitting tribute, his nephews Dillon and Dante have stepped in to continue the role of Rex, ensuring that the spirit of *Hudson & Rex* lives on. While no dog could ever truly replace Diesel, his legacy as one of television’s great canine actors will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Diesel. You were more than just a good boy—you were one of the best." - The Intel Drop
