It seems that more and more people are looking for a new groomer lately. I understand that prices are high and everyone wants to save a few dollars. However, please keep in mind when looking for a "new" possibly cheaper groomer, dogs are a lot like children. I don't know how many times I say, "Yeah, puppies are just like toddlers, full of energy and no attention span." If your fur baby has built a relationship with their current groomer, sometimes changing to someone new means starting over with rebuilding trust and learning the new environment. It isn't always worth a couple of dollars. But most importantly, ALWAYS take a few minutes to talk with the new places you are considering. Find out how long they have been grooming, how much knowledge do they really have, how and where are the pups kept before and after their grooming sessions? Those pups are your fur babies and you have every right to make sure you are leaving them with caring, knowledgeable people just as you would a child. We love talking to our clients and helping them learn how to better care for their pup's coat, or explain why you should or should not do something with the coat because of the breed. We love all our clients and their fur babies and want everyone to find a happy place to take their baby to as well.

A**l glands!🤢

1. Puppies should not get their a**l glands done unless they are exhibiting signs that they need help. (Scooting, stench, excessive licking) if you get their glands done they will rely on people to do it for them for their entire life instead of doing it on their own naturally when they potty.
2. Dogs express their a**l glands when they go potty to leave scent markers. They also will express as a fear response.
3. Make sure your groomer has been through training. Only one state in America requires groomers to have formal training to groom your dog. If a**l glands are squeezed incorrectly or with far to much pressure, they can rupture! This will require an expensive visit to your vet, will leak, fester and cause your dog extreme pain.

I’m sure you’ve heard… there’s a worker shortage and in America. And there is an unprecedented shortage of groomers especially since people are adopting and buying dogs more than ever. (About 1 million a month!)

What does this mean?
1. Groomers are busy and booked out, they get to pick and choose who their clientele will be. Ways to get chosen or kept as a client are to brush your dog at home in between appointments, be kind to your groomer and don’t no call no show for your appointments.
2. More pet parents may opt out of this luxury service (dog grooming) and choose to groom their pets at home. Which is great, please do some research, stay safe and ask your local groomer questions to help you on this journey.
3. Prices are going up, which is not unusual. Supply and demand. Shops must be able to pay for their overhead and with inflation across America it is only reasonable that your dogs groom will cost more as well.
4. As it becomes prudent to create more groomers you will see an influx of people joining this career. Make sure they have experience and/or are certified to groom your dog. You want a nice haircut yes, but you also want your dog to be treated appropriately and safe.

Why is it important that my dog allow me to blow dry them? Maybe your groomer has told you your dog is scared or Wiley for the dryer. These are reasons why the dryer is an important step in the process and should be mastered by your dog.
1. In order To give an even , not choppy, haircut the hair must be straight. We get the coat straight with the blow dryer.
2. During a deshed the dryer helps push any undercoat out making sure your getting the full service.
3. The drying process it the part of the groom where your groomer can see your dogs skin, therefore able to report any signs of allergies, skin abrasions and more.
4. The high velocity dryer helps loosen any matting your dog has, pushing it from the skin and giving us the ability to give a slightly longer cut in a lot of cases.

Ways we as groomers can help your dog to be more comfortable and calm for drying.
1. We utilize cotton balls and a happy hoodie. A happy hoodie goes over the dogs ears to lighten the sound and provide a comfort with compression.
2. Starting at the back end over a towel on the lower setting will help ease a dog into the process, getting them used to the sound and pressure of the dryer.

Ways you can help your dog at home.
1. Turn the vacuum on and pull out the treats. A high reward treat when the approach the vacumm will train them that the sound is not scary.
2. Baths and blowdryer at home. Simply going through the process with a person they know and trust will build their confidence.
