This post is not to embarrass anyone, but it will make your skin crawl. In the last two weeks, I have had more dogs come in with fleas than I ever have in 17 years of working with Animals.
Some of them have allowed their preventative to lapse. Some have not been on preventative at all but most have been on preventative that does not KILL FLEAS.
Please research what preventative your dogs are taking.
Yes many dogs have seasonal allergies right now, but also we are seeing that many dogs are scratching due to allergies caused by flea saliva and bites, not just the little parasites crawling all over them.
Most of you will never even see a flea on your pet. They typically stay in the warmest/darkest areas of the pets body, ie a**s, p***s, v***a, ears, armpits, groin and butt. And they are so small, unless you are face first in their coat (like we are) and have experience seeing them, you would never know they are there.
Many of you are turning your heating on. This causes dormant flea eggs to hatch and increases the sp*ed in which fleas reproduce. So therefore- not only do you need to treat your pets once they have an infestation, but you also need to treat your homes, cars and yard.
If your pet is scratching, you notice staining on their skin, dark brown dirt in their coat etc, please call me so I can guide you before you potentially bring fleas into my establishment.
Every time I have a dog with fleas come in, I have to spending 2-3 hours pulling everything out to treat and clean to ensure no pupa/eggs and fleas are left behind. I'm very thorough!
Please- check your pets. Research your flea prevention and make sure they are also up to date on dewormer!
Thanks again!
