Brookside Animal Hospital was incredibly honored to play even a small part in helping these animals receive the care and compassion they deserve. Seeing so many organizations, volunteers, and community members come together for these dogs has been truly inspiring.

While many have already begun their journey to safety and healing, some of these sweet dogs are still in need of foster homes or forever families. Meet Gus, better known around the house as Gussybear. Named after Augustus McCrae from Lonesome Dove, Gus has all the charm, grit, and laid-back spirit of his namesake. Adopted by his family in 2018, this rescue pup never lets the fact that he’s missing his two back feet slow him down. Gus lives life exactly how he likes it: enjoying good meals, taking excellent naps, and faithfully keeping watch over his baby sister. Equal parts tough cowboy and cuddly teddy bear, Gussybear is proof that resilience and sweetness make a pretty perfect combination.

🌸✨ Pet of the Month: April Edition ✨🌸

Meet Sugar Bear 🐻💖—the cutest little thing to ever waddle through Brookside’s doors (or at least, that’s what she confidently believes 😌).

She spends her days living her very best life… which mostly includes perfecting the art of being adorable and lovingly annoying her siblings to no end. But hey—what are little sisters for? 😇

Don’t let that sweet face fool you though… Sugar Bear has a tiny mischievous streak that shows up right when you least expect it. One second she’s cuddling, the next she’s plotting something suspiciously chaotic from across the room 👀

Sweet. Sassy. Slightly devious. Completely irresistible.

At Brookside, we believe every patient deserves the same level of care, whether they live in our homes or in the wild.

This opossum came to us through a fellow wildlife rehabilitator and required an IV catheter. IV catheters allow us to safely deliver fluids, medications, and life saving treatments directly into the bloodstream when patients are sick, injured, or dehydrated.

Whether it’s a family dog, a cat, or a wild opossum passing through on the road to recovery, every patient we treat receives compassionate, high quality veterinary care.

Wildlife may not live in our homes, but they share our world and they deserve our help when they need it.

A special thank you to Izzy Wildlife Rescue & Rehab for stepping in to rescue and care for these animals.
