A few weeks ago, I posted about needing another printer at the pound. Multiple people had tried to fix it but it was beyond repair. It was a big ask but I placed it on our wishlist. One of our adopters contacted us and let us know she was going to get it for us. Today, I set it up so we are up and running. Things like printers are not what alot of people think about when it comes to the pound but I am so thankful for the help!

Heads up! You may see these green, brown, or black pod-like balls on the ground in your neighborhood at this time of the year. They are nuts from black walnut trees. The picture shows black walnuts in various sizes and stages of maturity and decay. Every part of a black walnut tree (nuts, shells, leaves, and wood) is highly toxic to dogs. The initial symptoms of black walnut poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite, followed by tremors, seizures, and jaundice. The toxins in black walnut trees can be fatal to dogs if not treated promptly. Do not attempt to use any home remedies if your dog has ingested black walnut. Time is of the essence--get your dog to a vet immediately. (More info in the comments.)

Stay safe and be aware gow it may affect your pets. Halloween can be very scary for dogs. https://www.facebook.com/share...

Veterinary Telemedicine is Now Legal in Ohio

As of September 30, 2025, veterinary telemedicine is officially legal in the State of Ohio. This marks a major step forward in making veterinary care more accessible, affordable, and less stressful for pets and their owners.
For the first time, Ohio veterinarians can establish a Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) through virtual means. This means licensed Ohio veterinarians (and those licensed in Ohio but practicing elsewhere) can provide care, give medical advice, and prescribe most medications without requiring an in-person visit first

What Pet Owners Should Know

Ask your veterinarian if they are set up to provide telemedicine services. Not every practice may be ready on day one.

Telemedicine can save time and money for pet owners while reducing stress for pets that dislike travel or vet visits.

Informed consent is required. Veterinarians must explain how telemedicine works, provide their license number, and document your consent.

Records of your telehealth visit must be provided in writing or electronically.

Important Restrictions

Controlled substances cannot be prescribed through telemedicine (per both Ohio and federal law).

For other medications, vets may prescribe up to 14 days, with one additional 14-day refill if another telehealth visit occurs. Further refills require an in-person exam

Livestock exception: Telemedicine cannot be used to establish a VCPR for livestock raised for human food. Those cases require an in-person relationship first, though tele-advice is permitted.

Why This Matters

This law helps pet owners who face financial, geographic, or time barriers to getting care for their animals. It ensures that Ohio’s veterinarians can use modern tools to better serve the community.

United Pet Fund encourages all pet owners and rescue/shelter leaders to talk with their veterinarians about this new option. The more it is adopted, the more animals will benefit from timely, professional care.
