Hoof shavings or forbidden parmesan cheese?? Looks the same to me 🤣🤣.

Don't make me mad....I might make you a spaghetti dinner with a cheese topping you won't soon forget 🤭

YES!! Right about now is when I start getting calls about lame and foundering horses. Please be proactive if your horse has sugars issues.

Spring time is not the only time to be concerned about laminitis.

Someone is anxiously waiting in the background for some of those keratin treats 😁

With this hot weather, let's talk salt🧂 intake for a second!

Lately when I've mentioned adding salt to a horses diet, they immediately reply with the following;

❌️"I'll grab one of those mineral blocks next time I'm at the feed store"

❌️"Bessy won't hardly touch the salt block I got her last time"

❌️"Bessy chews it to pieces everytime I get her one"

For one, horse's soft tongues do not work with the salt blocks designed for cattles rough tongues so 1 of 2 things happen; Bessy's tongue gets tired of trying to get enough salt and she gives up, or Bessy resorts to chewing the block instead to try and get an adequate amount in her diet. You may even notice Bessy licking random items and even dirt 😬.

I like to have a small fixed tub filled with loose salt to let them eat at free will. I think people fear a horse will gorge themselves with salt but that is not the case at all. They will only eat as much as their bodies need 😊

Also, please stop using the red mineral blocks 🫣.....they're loaded with iron and we have way too much iron already in our water and ground (a story for another day). The iron in the mineral block overrides all the other benefits and make it pointless. Instead feed a mineral balancer such as vermont blend or california trace ⬇️⬇️

This fella had some back end issues and wouldn't hold his feet up in my hoof jack so we had to improvise. It has taken many appts for him to understand I wasn't asking him to jack his leg in the air and he could relax and rest his foot on my boot instead. Now he gets more relaxed with every appt!

Sometimes we need to slow down and listen to the older/arthritic horses and they'll tell you what's comfortable. I have a lot of horses on my books that need to be handled in a unique manner to accommodate their individual needs. I love how quickly they learn to trust you when you let them take the lead with how they are most comfortable standing.

I love getting videos like this right after I leave a trim appt ❤️ Especially when it was for a new horse in my rotation. So glad this lady was feeling loads better after!!!

It is always the goal to have a horse feel better after a trim and not the other way around. I've heard some owners say they have to give bute for a day or 2 after their farrier leaves and that should never be the case 😳. Either the trim cycle needs to be shortened, diet needs to be addressed, or you need to check in with your farrier and let them know what's going on so they can adjust their trims....or all 3 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Pro tip:
If it's hot out and you don't have AC in your car....make lemonade out of lemons. Get a cookie, set it on the dash while you trim and you got a melty cookie ready for you to eat on the drive to the next client 😅

(Don't worry, car was in park when pic was taken lol)

Not sure if he was more excited to see me or just excited for the treat-trimming party heading his way 😆
