Good luck to all the deer hunters this fall.

Be sure to promptly cool down and freeze your skins for processing. For animal skinning check with your favorite meat processor. Deer hides should not be salted; freeze instead.

If caping on your own, you can leave the whole skin attached to the head, just cut the legs off above the knee; Than skin from the rear of the animal toward the head.

When you get to the front legs DO NOT cut inside the legs ; roll the hide over the neck, pop the legs through and tube skin to the base of the head. Disconnect the neck roast and cool down hide before rolling it up. Place hides in a cardboard box once cooled.

If unable to bring in within 1-2 days freeze your hide in a freezer.

For questions please call Dave at 715-675-6800.

Thank you And Best of Luck

Also, we are buying hides which must have the head and legs cut off.

I would like to wish all Sportsmen and Women an enjoyable and safe hunt during these crisp late autumn days. When harvesting any game please keep in mind to promptly cool down your skins and capes and freeze within a day if they can not be brought in fresh.

A few hints for successful hunters; Avoid dragging the front shoulders or putting a rope around the neck of your trophy, or transporting it above the exhaust system of your vehicle.
When saving a deer cape for taxidermy, It would be beneficial to have the deer skinned out, except for the head. You can leave the entire hide attached to the head and antlers. Simply cut off the legs and skin the deer from the rear to the front. Make no cuts from the front legs forward. Tube the neck skin and reverse it over the neck as far as you can. Be careful when disconnecting the head from the neck roast as to not cut through the hide.
You can make a Y cut from the ribs to the rear side of each front leg, however stay to the rear edge of the front legs, behind the white in the arm pockets. Many individuals will just pull the legs through without any cuts. Whichever way works best for you. Keep the skins as cool and dry as possible, do not salt. If they can not be brought into the shop within a few days, they should be wrapped up and kept in a deep freeze.

To all those who will be participating in this wonderful tradition, we wish you a safe and successful hunt. To those who have already harvested we look forward to working with you soon. If you have questions or concerns the best way to reach would be by phone. Please feel free to give us a call at 715-675-6800. Have a great season!

I would like to wish all Sportsmen (Women) an enjoyable and safe hunt, during the beautiful Autumn days.

When harvesting any game please keep in mind to promptly cool down your skins and capes and freeze within a day if they can not be brought in fresh.

On bear hides the skinning cuts are the same whether you are skinning it for a rug, full mount, or a half mount. The bear can be opened from the a**l up to the center of the neck. The front legs cut from the center of the pads straight across the upper chest in a T pattern. I will skin the head and feet, with the prep work.
(The bear must be skinned out by the owner or a meat cutter of the owners choice.)

Do not salt the bear skin, freeze the skin within the same day.
Any questions please call me at 715-675-6800
