A: We love this question—because while raising Maine C***s is a dream, it’s also one of the hardest things we’ve ever done. Here are some of the biggest challenges we face as breeders:
💔 Loss
No matter how much experience or love you have, loss still hits hard. Whether it’s a fading kitten, a complicated delivery, or a heartbreak you never saw coming—grief is, unfortunately, a part of this journey. And it never gets easier.
⏰ Time & Sacrifice
Breeding isn’t a 9–5. It’s 24/7—middle-of-the-night feedings, emergency vet runs, constant cleaning, and never-ending to-do lists. It means missed vacations, skipped events, and a schedule that revolves around the cats first, always.
🧪 Health & Genetics
Staying up to date on testing, screening, and ethical pairing takes constant education and investment. Even with all precautions, unexpected issues can arise—and managing them responsibly is emotionally and financially intense.
📩 Misinformation & Criticism
There’s a lot of judgment and misinformation out there about breeders. We work hard to be transparent and ethical in everything we do, but the negativity can still sting.
💸 Financial Pressure
Between premium food, vet care, testing, birthing supplies, and emergencies, the expenses add up quickly. And if something goes wrong? You're footing the bill—not the buyer, not the internet, not anyone else. Just you.
But despite all the challenges, we wouldn’t trade this for anything. The joy of raising healthy, confident kittens and watching them thrive in loving homes makes every sacrifice worth it. 🖤
