Lucky enough to visit with Cats veteran 3rd baseman Dakota "Dodge" Smith this morning on the mindset on Opening Day: "Although every season is different my mind set and attitude stays consistent. Personally, opening day has always been kind of an emotional roller coaster. Thinking about the off season workouts, the time, the sacrifice that I've put in, that have lead up to today is what gets me going. Being looked at as one of the leaders of this team definitely leads to some pressure but I don't mind it. You know it's funny, watching some of the rookies come in and kind of press and be nervous because I was in their shoes at one point and it's hard for them to believe that. That's where I pull them aside and tell them to be themselves and let the game come to them. Don't get caught up in the championships and the buzz; it's just baseball. God willing, I've got some good years of ball left to add to my storied career. But the thing I stress the most on opening day is: don't take one pitch for granted. Leave everything you have on the field and good things will come."
