Soggie Doggie

Soggie Doggie In May, 2018, when Jack Russell number three, JR, arrived at R-Horizon Farm, new adventures and challenges came along. Soggie Doggie was officially born.

On one of our first outings with JR we encountered a small stream where he was persistent on getting in, splashing around, and at times even pulling me off balance just to stay in the water. As summer progressed it was evident that JR loved the water. We started with a small inflatable, transitioned a few times quickly from there and soon found ourselves frequenting a big plastic pool. It was neve

r fun when Fall came around and we had to empty the pool for winter. In the fall of 2020, a retired farm building became available and, ‘Walla’! A dedicated building where a pool could be fully enclosed and insulated for year-round swimming. The pool at Soggie Doggie is heated to a consistent temperature keeping the building comfortable, along with added play time in our half acre yard. Soggie Doggie offers multiple opportunities for you and your best furry friend. Private rental times, group session and classes are available to swim and play for all dogs. Whether it be conditioning to keep your pup in top form, weight loss, improved mobility, confidence building or even the sheer pleasure of a fun, bonding experience. Our wish is that you share the same enjoyment with swimming your dog as we have. At Soggie Doggie, it’s all about the dog!

This was Hazel's second visit to Soggie Doggie. Giving her time to figure it out was the right decision. Desire for the toy and a little help from the life jacket provided her the tools to be successful. It only gets better from here. Wait to go Hazel!

Let's be honest. Where would you rather have your dog swimming?

🚫🐶 Blue-Green Algae: A Deadly Danger For Dogs!

Blue-green algae might look like harmless scum or discolored water … but it's actually toxic bacteria that can make your dog very sick — or even be deadly. Just a quick swim or a sip of contaminated water is enough to cause serious harm.

Toxins from blue-green algae can lead to:
⚠️ Liver damage or failure
⚠️ Seizures, tremors, or paralysis
⚠️ Vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
⚠️ Breathing issues
⚠️ Disorientation or even coma

Symptoms can show up within 30 minutes, so always keep a close eye after water play. If you notice any of these signs, get your dog to the vet right away!

Meet Mr. Tyrant. A recent arrival to our area from the south, he has spent a lifetime retrieving ducks and living the good life swimming. At almost ten and a half his owner was noticing a decline in his spirit because he has been missing swimming so much. Luckily she found Soggie Doggie and he has found his happy again! I pretty sure this has lifted both of their spirits again. Can't wait to see that smiling face return for another.

It was big brother Gambit who closed the deal this past week. Enygma still had reservations about the idea of the pool and the ramp so big brother Gambit showed him there was nothin' to it! Having Gambit perform without hesitation kept Enygma on task. He decided that instead of chasing his monkey toy he would just keep it handy. Thanks Gambit for lending a hand!

How long does it take a dog to adjust to a new home? It depends on the dog, but with clear routines, and patience you can help a new dog adjust.

Riley has returned this summer to Soggie Doggie. She is special in so many ways. Her impressive credentials as a comfort specialist brings joy and calmness, weekly, to special needs children at Trinity Childrens Center, a part of St. Joseph's Center. She thrives on the reactions from the children as she spends time with them during reading sessions at the Abington Community Library and The Lackawanna Blind Association. We are so honored to have her spend her personal time off with us. This is Madiso a 5 month of Lab Puppy. Madison, as an adult, will eventually play an important roll for someone who is sight impaired, but for now we are going to learn to swim and just be a puppy.

Yep! Time to start another one!
