Gotta love the proof of life texts after a track over the weekend.
After speaking with the hunter about the shot we knew it was likely either he was dead with double lungs or the buck was indeed fast enough to duck and hit high.
Buck was shot first thing in the morning. But once Hunter got down he had no blood and canvased roughly less than 100 yards of direction of travel and backed out and called us in. We showed up around the 12hour mark and Jethro locked on and away he went. Locked on to the track through a few hundred yards of thick briars. Never once found any blood until around the 5-600 yard mark we saw a spot of blood on a sapling. With no sign of any beds we pursued a little bit more and I discussed with the hunter at about 7-800 yards that I had a feeling he was hit high in or above no man’s land. But to be sure I wanted Jethro to run the track again. Jethros actions for the last 1/4 of the track were also indicating to me this buck was not dead. We returned back to the shot sight and he struggled for interest in the track but after a hard reset he locked in and took us right back the track we tracked. We called the track at that point.
And lo and behold just 4 days later the hunter received a video from the neighbor of the buck he shot out cruising. And had since Friday night even broken off some tines.
Glad to see he was still alive.
Thank you for calling us out and trusting us with your track!
