☀️🌡️ Hot Weather Reminder: Protect Your Pets! 🐾💙

As we continue to experience these warm summer days and look to head into another hot weekend, it's important to remember that the heat can become dangerous for our pets much faster than it does for us.

Whether you're going for a walk, spending the day at the lake, enjoying a backyard BBQ, or running errands, take a few extra precautions to keep your furry family members safe.

🐾 Walk during the cooler morning or evening hours.
💧 Always provide access to fresh, cool water.
🌳 Make sure your pet has plenty of shade when outdoors.
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle (even with the windows cracked).
🐕 If your pet seems tired or reluctant to exercise, head indoors and let them cool down.

Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency that can develop quickly. If your pet is experiencing excessive panting, difficulty breathing, weakness, vomiting, collapse, or seems unusually lethargic after being in the heat, seek veterinary care immediately.

PLEASE SHARE: DON'T FORGET ABOUT YOUR PETS... The heat and humidity are going to continue to put the smackdown on us through the rest of this week and into the upcoming weekend. One of the most important things we can do is take care of ourselves and those we love. That includes our pets.

Most of this is common sense, but just in case, here are a few reminders to help keep them safe.

1. Keep your dogs inside during fireworks. This holiday is when the most dogs are lost.
2. When taking your dog out to potty, leash them if you don’t have a fence.
3. Create an enclosed sanctuary with white noise to mask booming sounds, and consult your vet about anxiety medication if your dog panics.
4. Make sure your dog’s collar has contact info.
5. Keep pets away from party food scraps, which can include toxic ingredients like xylitol, onions, chocolate, or alcohol.
6. Dispose of matches, lighter fluids, glow sticks, and fireworks debris immediately, as they contain toxic chemicals.
