Meet our newest member of the Groot’s Canine family👣 Callum Scott Scharsich💕
He is going to be the best addition to our team🙂
I again want to thank everyone of my clients for being so supportive during this time! I cannot wait to get back started with each and every one of you, but for now, I’m enjoying and learning my new role as a mom!
Announcement pt.2 📣
Groot’s Canine cannot catch a break right now! Sara has had a family emergency and had to head back to Louisiana for some time to be with family.
I have made the decision to fully close, I do not want to leave anyone else booked and have to cancel on them. Even though these circumstances we cannot control, I still hate leaving you guys with expectations we cannot meet! Therefore, until I am back from maternity leave, we will be fully closed. Which means, no privates or group classes! I’ll keep everyone posted as we get closer to our reopening! I already have some awesome plans for re-structuring class curriculum and how to come back with a bang! I miss you all and I cannot wait to be back training (bedrest is kinda boring).
Thank you SO very much for your understanding and support during this time! I appreciate every single one of you!
If you have any training questions or anything I can help with via message, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
See y’all soon (and don’t worry, I’ll post Baby Shark when he decides to arrive)!
Announcement 📣
I (Casey) have unfortunately been put on medical bed rest and will no longer be able to work. Baby and I are doing okay right now, but I need to take it easy to allow for baby to keep cooking for a little longer! We hate to have to make this change, but unfortunately my family’s health comes first! Since this business is run mainly by me, a lot is going to change rather abruptly!
Thankfully, Sara is going to take over some of the classes and her current privates at the moment. Unfortunately, everyone of my private client’s have to be stopped for the time being. We are making a list of everyone who I saw in privates for when Sara has availability to add more, but we do not know when/if that time will come. We are NOT taking on new private lesson clients until I return! She will be moving at some point too, so business may completely shut down until my return, more information will come of that as we know more.
Sara will be finishing off the last week of the current round of classes. She is working on her AKC evaluators license, so hopefully we can still do CGC testing for the advanced and intermediate classes! The next round of classes will still include the Sunday advanced obedience class, Monday basic/puppy obedience class, and Tuesday intermediate obedience class. There will be no Therapy/Service dog class or Scentwork classes.
I do not know when I will be back and when business will resume to its normal capacity. I would love for everything to go as planned, and I can return late August/early September but nothing will be set in stone until a much later date.
Thank you so much for everyone who has sent me well wishes so far! I am sad to be done earlier than I want to, but I am excited for this new role I’ll have soon! I am already looking forward to the fall when hopefully I can be back and open fully back up, with just some extra tiny hands for assistance!
See y’all very soon🐾❤️
If you have any questions or want to sign up for classes, please feel free to message the page! To those that have my number, I would request for you to also use the Facebook for any questions or scheduling!
Class schedule is finally here! Sunday classes will start April 23rd, and weekday classes will start April 17th! We will not have classes the week week of May 7th!
This will be Casey’s last set of group classes before Maternity leave! We may have select group classes afterwards depending upon when Sara leaves but that will be announced later!
The Advanced Obedience class will only be 4 weeks due to scheduling conflicts and all other classes will be 5 weeks instead of 6. But don’t worry, we will still touch on all the appropriate curriculum, just may be a little faster pace! The 5-week classes will be priced at $180!
These classes will fill up fast, so reach out if you are interested!
Last week our Intermediate classes went on their first public outing at Lowe’s and did so well!!
We are preparing for AKC’s Canine Good Citizen test next week. We learned and worked on how to engage and focus with distractions, walk loosely in public, down stay with distractions, settling in public, walking up to another dog, and sitting nicely for petting!
Each class has made huge strides in their progress and obedience, I am very proud of them! Check out some of what we worked on in class!
Way behind on this video, but River also graduated our BootCamp program last week! She was only with us for a week but we were able to work on a few problematic behaviors with her, including jumping, rushing the door/crate, and separation anxiety! She has taken our classes so we also worked on things she already knows like down stays and loose leash walking!
Proud of her progress even in a short time!
Just a few snippets of our Advanced Community/Therapy Dog class tonight at Runnings!
All these dogs and owners have put in such hard work to get them to where they are today and I am so very proud of them!! 2 of these dogs are actually under a year old, can you believe that?!
They will be testing for their Canine Good Citizen Advanced and Urban tests in just two weeks and a few will go onto the therapy dog certification!
Ta**us graduated our 3-week Board & Train program a couple days ago!! He was at the shelter North Country Pet Adoption Services and desperately needed help learning some house manners and basic obedience!
He has done fantastic and made HUGE strides, I’m so proud of him! I can’t wait to continue to work with him at his foster home🐾💜
Apparently it is National Puppy Day🐾
Post a pic of your dog below, bonus points if you have a puppy!
Here is the Groot’s Canine crew. My puppy is not much of a puppy anymore!
Check out our awesome Advanced Scentwork Class!! We have a couple other dogs that also enjoy this class but I did not take a video of!
These dogs have been having a blast learning the all the foundations of scentwork! They have learned all 3 AKC scents, how to search out a room for the target odor, and how to alert when they found it! I’m so proud of each one of these dogs and owners for all their hard work! A couple of us will even be hitting a trial in a few weeks and I cannot wait to see how everyone does!
Scentwork is such a fun sport and activity to do with your dog. It is good to work their brain and give them an outlet for their nose!
If you are interested in learning more about this sport or this class, reach out today!!
A belated welcome to 💦River💦!!
She is staying with us for just a short time to brush up on some skills including door manners, settling, and engagement! So far she is doing so well!!
A bit longer video but definitely worth a watch!! Check out our awesome group classes last week! Everyone did amazing for week 2!
Basic obedience and puppy obedience classes were working on their engagement with their owners, heeling, sit, and down!
Intermediate obedience classes were working on their loose leash walking with the other dogs, down stay with distractions and some distance, reaction to other dogs and saying hi on leash, food refusal from strangers, and sitting nicely for petting!
Advanced obedience/therapy class was working all their skills around a ton of distractions at the mall, as well as different tasks that would be beneficial for therapy or service work!
Sweet Ta**us is up for adoption with North Country Pet Adoption Services and waiting for his furever home❤️
We really want to find his home before he has to go back to the shelter after his training in a week and a half!!!
Here is a bit about him:
Ta**us is a hound mix who is around 2 years old! We don’t know much of his story but he was transported up here from a shelter in NC. He has been in the shelter life for a very long time in his short time! He is super sweet! He has medium energy, nothing too crazy, he loves to play with other dogs, walks, and is starting to like to play with toys (still learning what fetch is). He loves the outside, and like most hounds love to smell everything and explore all the scents the outside has to offer! He is very food and treat motivated which makes training super easy!
He has come a long way with potty training and has mastered home manners! He is crate trained and does well with separation! He is learning leash manners and his basic obedience, so far doing fantastic!! He is such a smart boy!
Please share, Let’s find him a home!!!
Riley has graduated our BootCamp program today!! I’m so proud of all her progress these last two weeks! When she came to me, she wouldn’t take treats or toys in stores, was super nervous, and barked at most people and dogs she saw!
She also had a hard time settling around the house! In the two weeks we have built up her confidence out in public a ton, reduced her reactivity immensely, and built structure into her routine!
She has come so far!!
Meet Willow & Frankie 🐾
These gorgeous siblings have been with us the last 9 days to continue to work on their obedience while their humans were away on vacation!
They are so much fun and learned a lot even in a little time!
We were able to work on their leash walking, down stay, leave-it, and confidence building!
Riley girl is also been rocking her time here with us!! She has been with us for over a week and has made HUGE strides!
She was a little nervous out in public, did not want to take food or toys, would immediately shut down with nerves. She would bark at people in hopes to keep them away as she has some stranger danger!
Now she is handling stores and being out in public like a champ! She is now taking treats, playing, and engaging with us! She can pass by people without being nervous and is really starting to get confident and trust out in public!
I’m so proud of her!! Keep a watch out in a couple days for her progress video of her showing off her skills!
Ta**us update!!!
This boy is doing AMAZING!!! He’s going to be ready for adoption in no time and make a fantastic pet!!
He has been with us for one whole week and has learned a lot! He has been crate trained and potty trained! He has learned the ropes of living inside a home! He has also learned how to focus around food (used to be so excited, he would just run around in circles), sit, down, his name, and how to walk on a leash (he was a major freight train puller)! I am so proud of him and can it wait to see all he accomplishes with 2 more weeks with him!
He is up for adoption at North Country Pet Adoption Services!! He is the absolute sweetest and does super with other dogs! He would be good in almost any home, he hasn’t been tested with cats or kids yet but based on his temperament he seems like he will do fine (we will know more when we test him). If you are interested in more information, feel free to reach out! If you are interested in the adoption application, head over the NCPAS’ page to get started!!
Please pick up after your pet! I don’t know if it happens at classes, but we do not want to lose our ability to use their facility! Please please please pick up after your pet before or after classes! There are bags inside if you have forgotten one that we can get you!
Thank you❤️
PSA
I cannot believe I am actually having to say this.. there has been a number of customers not picking up after their pet in the parking lot, grass and mulch areas. If you do not have a p**p bag then please ask and one will be provided for you. Cameras have been installed and fines will now be introduced. It’s just downright rude, It makes our business look bad and as an owner it is your responsibility to pick up after your pet.
Week 1 has finished for our new round of group classes!! We have all full classes which will make for some exciting sessions and good distractions!
The first class is always the most chaotic but everyone did so well! I can’t wait to see all their improvement in the next 6 weeks!
I finally got a picture of this wiggly, always moving, boy that is not sleeping😂
Huge welcome to ♉️Ta**us💜! This young guy is a hound mix that will be with us for the next 3 weeks! He is another one from North Country Pet Adoption Services who is up for adoption!! Please share so we can find him a home before the end of his Board and Train!! I will of course be posting videos and pictures to update his progress!
He is with us to learn basic manners and be the best pet he can be! It is suspected he has never lived in a home before. He didn’t even understand the concept of taking a treat out of our hand or sit a couple days ago! He also lacks a bit of confidence, he’s very nervous around loud noises or voices or things he has not experienced before. He is a frieght train on a leash! All of which he will be a master of in just a short time! He is friendly with other dogs and yesterday was the first time he figured out how to play with them! Today he has picked up a toy for the first time, still not sure what you are supposed to do with them but he will learn!
If you are interested in more information about him or the adoption process, feel free to reach out to me or North Country Pet Adoption Services!
This rockstar, Moose, also graduated from our Board & Train program earlier this week!
Moose came to us very fixated and reactive towards other dogs and separation anxiety! In his time with us, we worked on his tolerance around other dogs, barrier aggression, reactivity in public, basic obedience (such as a down stay, settling, and leave-it), door manners, loose leash heel, and loose leash walking on a long line with recall!
He went from a dog who couldn’t even see another dog in the distance to one who was engagement and walking within a few feet of other dogs out in public!
I’m so proud of him, he made a huge change with us and I am excited to continue with him in group classes so he can further his obedience!
This gorgeous boy graduated our Board & Train program earlier this week and his results are amazing! This dog had a rough start to life but he was adopted by an amazing family who wanted to do everything to set him up right. They saw the potential in him and I am so happy they did!
Copper has tons of energy but he is such a love. When he came to us, he did not know boundaries around the home, did not respect doors or gates, stole food anytime he could, did not settle well, and barked a ton! He also did not trust humans to not take his resources so he resource guarded anything food. In the 3 weeks, we worked on his house manners and basic obedience! He learned threshold manners with doors, gates, and his crate! He learned how to settle and started to trust and not feel threatened by humans approaching his resources!
I am so proud of him and am excited to keep working with him with his owners!
Huge welcome to this little girl, Riley🐾! She is with us for a short while to work on engagement, focus around other dogs, and building up her confidence!
We are very excited to work with her!
This last week has been full of some fun and awesome graduation and last sessions of our group classes! We had quite a few pups out this week but while they are not in the pictures, they still completed the class! We are so proud of each and everyone and excited to see almost everyone in our next round of classes moving up!! Such a fun bunch of dogs!
Just a couple more days until we begin the next session!!
Look at all these amazing dogs who passed their CGC tests this week! We had 5 intermediate dogs pass the first step in the CGC and 2 advanced dogs pass their CGC community tests!
I’m so proud of all the progress each and every one of these teams have made in the last 6 weeks!
The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a well-rounded test to see what your dog knows and how they behave in certain scenarios! There are 3 levels we work towards in our classes that help advance your dog in obedience and basic manners and create an overall well-mannered pet!
Our next round of group classes begin next week! if you are interested in any of our classes, reach out today! We have one more spot in the Basic Obedience Class and a couple more in our Puppy Obedience Class!

Is this not the cutest photo there ever was? 😍
Rudy is also doing well for his first 5 days of his stay with us! He has come out of his shell and gaining confidence each and every day!
Our B&Ts Copper and Moose are on their last week and I am so VERY proud of both of them! They have made HUGE strides in their short time with us!
Both have become much more comfortable in their crate and with separation. Copper has learned house manners and threshold boundaries at the door, gates, and in his kennel! Copper has also improved tremendously with his resource guarding of his food and high value resources. He is learning and still working on placing during mealtimes!
Moose has become way more tolerant of other dogs within his space! He has improved greatly in his reactivity towards other dogs, cars, and, people out in public. They have both been to many group classes and a bunch of public outings to stores (including TJ Max, Lowe’s, Joanne’s, Tractor Supply, and Hobby Lobby) to work on their leash walking skills, engagement around distractions, settling and downing around distractions!
I cannot wait till they are reunited with their owners and get to show off all their hard work!
Welcome to our littlest guest, 🔅Rudy!! Rudy is with us for 2 weeks for puppy foundations! We are so excited to have him and can’t wait to see all his progress in the next 2 weeks!
Check out our awesome Intermediate Group class rocking their session out at Lowe’s this week!
In our intermediate class, we go in public outings during the 4th and 5th week to continue to work on proofing all their learned behaviors in different environments and around more distractions!
So proud of each one of them!
Our next round of group classes begins March 5th! Reach out today for more information or to sign up!
The group class schedule is finally here!!! Registration is now open! Just messsage me to sign up and I’ll get you in the class!
Our next round will start the week of March 5th! Each class, besides Scentwork, is a 6-week course and lasts about an hour or so each week!
More detailed information on each class will be highlighted throughout the next couple week!
A valentines treat for everyone tonight❤️
Happy Valentine’s Day to every furry friend❤️💕
The Groot’s Canine pack has some big news to share! We are used to adding dogs but in a couple months we will be adding tiny little hands to our family!
Baby Shark is due the beginning of June, which means I will (hopefully 🤞🏻) be starting maternity leave at the end of May for a couple months! We are hoping to continue classes and select privates from Sara during some of this time, but unfortunately a lot will be paused over the summer to allow our family to adapt to this big change! We are so very excited for this next adventure!
Don’t worry, things will restart after maternity leave and I will probably be so ready to get back with all the dogs!
So, what does this mean for the next couple months?
We are almost, if not, fully booked for our board and trains! We are continuing privates all the way up until I am able, but will probably lessen the amount as it gets closer, so be patient if you have to wait a couple weeks to get seen! We are almost fully booked as it is for a couple weeks at the moment. Classes will continue as normal, probably only 2 more sessions of normal classes before it’ll change a bit! So get your dogs in before May to be ready for Summer!!
Ever wondered what a day in the life looks like for our Board and Train dogs?
Now this isn’t every day, some days look different as they might go on enrichment/sniffy walks to work on recall, classes, and lessons!
In our program, the dogs get plenty of attention and fun! They always get play time with each other or our pack, training sessions in the home throughout the day, rest inside the home, and often special treats at night time to settle down after a long day. Today they went on their first outing and to say I was impressed is an understatement! They both did fantastic at Lowe’s today and I think they loved every minute of it!
Moose has finished his first week and Copper is almost done with his first week! They still have things to learn but they have grown so much in such a short period!
Welcome 🔸Copper🔸 to our Board and Train program! This young dude came to us a couple days ago and is here to learn boundaries around the home, leash manners, and issues with resource guarding! Copper had a rough start to life and was not treated well at all, his new owner sees the potential in him (as do we)! We cannot wait to see him learn what life can be like and watch him blossom into a whole different dog in the next 3 weeks💕

Watching this can you imagine this was Peach’s first public outing session in Lowes? And can you imagine Peach is 9 years old?! She did sooo amazing and is so ready for her CGC test coming up! She was so focused and walked so nicely, so proud of all their work! When people say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, Peach begs to differ! No age is too old to start learning new things, improving their obedience/manners, or building upon your relationship! Interested in private lessons? Reach out today to learn more and get scheduled!
Cheyenne and Aspen had their 5th session with us the other day and man are they making great progress!! We have been working on their loose leash walking skills independently and just starting putting their other skills like down and leave-it generalized when they are together! You wouldn’t believe that Cheyenne used to be insanely unfocused and overstimulated outside, whining, and constantly pulling every direction! Now look at them both! They have also master door manners and gotten so much better with their recall outside! I am so proud of them and their owner, I cannot wait to continue to watch their improvement! Interested private lessons? Reach out today! We have lessons all throughout the week and weekend!
6 month old Duhblinn passed his Canine Good Citizen test with flying colors last week!!! Check out just how awesome he is doing in each and every one of the test items!! The CGC is a phenomenal curriculum to goal towards for basic obedience and general manners! It tests the dog through 10 items, including accepting a friendly stranger, sitting nicely for petting, allowing to be touched and groomed, going for a loose leash walk around people and distractions, sit and down with stay, recall, reaction to another dog, and supervised separation! Interested in private lessons or more information on the CGC? Reach out today! There will also be an intermediate class next session for the CGC!
Phoebe finished her 3-week board and train last week and I cannot be more proud of this change in her! The biggest goals her owners wanted was basic house manners, potty training, appropriate greeting of new people (no jumping), and walking on a leash! Well she mastered that in no time! Then we got to work on some other basic obedience including down with implied stay, leave-it, and recall! I did not get any videos of all her outings but she was able to go to Lowes, group class, the park, and so much more! I cannot wait to help her owners continue her training at home, she is such a sweetheart and loves to work! Interested in our Board and Train program? We have openings for October!
A little late, but check out how awesome these dogs and their owners did last week in our 2nd week of group classes!! In the basic class we worked on leave-it, sit with implied stay, and door manners! In the intermediate class I tested all of the dogs to help them get ready for their CGC or CGCA assessments and they also rocked everything I threw at them. We worked on their walking over food, down and recalls, reaction to other dogs, and long duration down stays! So proud of each and every one. I cannot wait to continue to watch their improvements! Our next group classes will start September 19th and 20th! Reach out today to sign up!
Lucy had her first session at Lowes the other day to work towards her Canine Good Citizen test soon! She did so well and I am so proud of all the improvement she has made! She also had some leash reactivity due to some frustration towards and rarely does she even make a peep when she sees another dog! With just a little more practice, I know she is going to ace the CGC. Interested in private lessons? We have a few more spots during the week, reach out today to reserve your slot!
This is absolutely one of my favorite transformations!! When I met this sweet little girl a couple months ago, she was so terrified of new people she would bark nonstop and barely even take treats from me. It took a few weeks for her to accept me and then even longer for us to work up her threshold around strangers. She used to get out of the car in a parking lot and bark and lunge at anyone within eyesight. Once we worked through her threshold outside around strangers, we started taking it in the store. The first day in the store, she shut down and was very nervous. NOW LOOK AT HER!! She is happy, confident, and walking by people no problem. I am insanely proud of her and how far she has come. We still have a lot of progress to make to fully build her confidence around new environments and fully mitigate her fear reactivity around strangers and dogs but I just had to share the progress so far! Fear reactivity is very tough because you are dealing with an emotional problem. You cannot create lasting behavioral change without changing the mindset of the dog. Interested in private lessons? Reach out today to reserve your slot!
I think one of the most important skills in dog training, walking nicely, appropriately, and calmly on a leash! This makes outings enjoyable for both you and the dog! Check these awesome dogs out learning their leash manners and loving their walks! Interested in private lessons? Reach out today, there are limited open spots during the week!
Last week we had the first of our obedience classes and everyone did fantastic!!! We worked a ton on engagement, name recognition, impulse control, and leash manners! Each dog and owner made so much improvement and I cannot wait to see how they continue in the next 5 weeks!! Interested in our group classes? The next class will start September 19th and 20th with limited spots. Reach out today before they fill up!
A little behind on Pheobe’s second week update video but check this girl out! This week was all about the foundations of basic obedience! (Excuse the poor camera angle and video😬). We worked on luring, impulse control, down with implied stay, leave-it, and loose leash walking in many different environments. She has gotten out on many outings including Lowes, the park, and group class! I cannot wait for her to get to show off to her parents in a week! Interested in our Board and Train program? We are booking out into October! Reach out today!
A huge congratulations goes to Raiden for acing his CGC test the other night!! I am so proud of him and his owner! He is such a smart and well-rounded dog! The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test is an evaluation by AKC that assesses the basic manners and obedience every dog should know including walking nicely on a leash through crowds, accepting friendly strangers, reaction to other dogs, sit, down, stay, recall, sitting nicely for petting, and reaction to distractions! This is my goal for each and every client whose goals are to have basic obedience and manners in public and around distractions! Raiden did such a great job! Next up, CGC Advanced! Interested in the CGC test or how to get there? Reach out today!
My favorite thing is to see all the pieces coming together! Check out Raiden’s first public outing the other day!! We have been working on his manners around the neighborhood and inside the home for the past few weeks. This week we began generalizing them to other locations and he picked it up like a champ! We worked on his engagement and manners around another dog, loose leash walking with distraction, and down with implied stay! Love to see clients and their dogs working together as a team and succeeding in their goals! Interested in private lessons? Reach out today! I have a couple openings for during the weekday!
Let’s talk about building confidence and the importance behind it! Confidence is crucial in helping your dog take the stresses that life throws at them in stride. Though the dog may startle at first at new sights, sounds, or environments, a confident dog will recover quickly which is so important for a well-rounded dog! Confidence building comes in all shapes and forms from learning new behaviors and commands to desensitization of new surfaces, objects, environments, and sounds! Bailey and Lucy both are a bit shy and so one goal we have had was build their confidence around novel things! Check out them rock this simple obstacle course with all types of new items! So proud of them! Next we will try going into a store with lots of new experiences! Interested in our Boarding Boot Camp program? Reach out today to learn more!
Check out Honey’s 4th public outing lesson the other day!! She did fantastic at such a young age! This lesson we worked mainly on loose leash walking, engagement, extended down stays, place, and beginning to enforce people talking to her as a cue to look at mom! This is super important for SDITs because no matter if someone is talking to them, reaching out to them, calling their name, they need to stay focused on their job and their person! It is such a hard task but one that if practiced, can be flawless! I am so proud of her and her mom for all their hard work and can’t wait to continue to watch them grow! Interested in private lessons? Reach out today! I am currently all booked but am accepting names on a waitlist!
5 days late is better than nothing? Finally here is Shadow’s final progress video at the end of his Board and Train with us! Check out all that he learned with us, including down with implied stay, leave-it, heel position, place, door manners, recall, and leash manners! He also got to practice all these behaviors in a multitude of distracting environments and excelled each one! So proud of him and can’t wait to continue working with him at home in private lessons to make sure he is generalizing and adapting well back home! Interested in the Board & Train program? Reach our today, spots fill fast and I am booking into September!!
Way behind on posting lately but check out last weekend here at Groot’s Canine! It was fun-filled and full of socialization in new environments! We went to Seaway Splash in Clayton to compete with BKL Air Dogs and give both Shadow and Duhblinn a ton of socialization and training in a very high distraction environment! Both the puppies did an awesome job, I am beyond proud of their confidence and engagement with all the people and new sights and smells! I am also so impressed with how they handled everything i threw at them this weekend. Events like this are perfect training opportunities! Always something new for our board and train pups! Groot and Lola also did great in the competition and ended up placing in each of their divisions! Shadow got to jump off this new dock in practice and Duhblinn even got to swim!
It’s summer time with just gorgeous weather! The best time to be taking your pup(s) for a walk! But is your walk enjoyable? Check out these awesome pups rocking their heel and loose leash walking outside around distractions and other dogs! Each one of these dogs were previously reactive on leash (excitement reactivity) and was just all about going up and saying hi. However, all it took was a change of tools and reinforcement and look where they are at now!! So very proud of each dog and owner! Shadow has completed 2 weeks with us in the Board and Train Program and look at all he has worked on! Week 2 is always the most intensive with actually learning new things. This week we focused on learning and proofing place around the house, recall and proofing it in high distraction environments, and learning leave-it, door manners, and the heel position! The last week will be all about making everything he has learned solid to get ready to go home!! So excited to see how he does at home! Interested in our Board and Train Program? I am booking into August, so reach out today to learn more and secure your spot!
Let’s talk Recal!!! Recall is probably the most important behavior you can teach your dog. It is a behavior that truly could save your dog’s life! However, it can be one of the hardest. Recall has to be taught, practiced, and heavily reinforced! It also has to be taught as a requirement, that there is absolutely no other choice but to come back when recalled. To do this, while teaching this behavior, it is imperative to keep them on leash and ALWAYS have rewards. We have to have them on a leash to instill pressure if they decide to ignore or to guide them back if they don’t know what you are asking. Rewards are important to make coming back to you a positive experience and to create that reinforcement background! Check out these clients working on their recall doing an amazing job! Recall takes time but with consistency and practice you can earn a rock solid recall even around distractions!
Shadow has finished his 1st week in his Board and Train program and is doing amazing!!! The first week is all about getting to know each other and building a bond. Once some trust has been built, we got started with socialization, engagement and confidence building! Shadow came with very little confidence in himself but has really come out of his shell in just one week! After some confidence building we got to start on the basics a couple days ago, such as recall, down, impulse control, and leash walking! I cannot wait to see how he continues to progres in 2 more weeks! Interested in the Board and Train Program? Reach out today! I am booking for August!
Visible progress is the best thing to see!! Emma has been going through a pretty intense fear period, causing her to be scared and react and many different things, especially strangers, other dogs, and loud noises! The other day she conquered Lowes on a very busy and noisy day! She did fantastic! She got a little uneasy at some of the loud noises but was able to maintain focus, behaviors, and not react to a single thing the entire time! What awesome progress, I am so proud of her and her family, I cannot wait to see how she continues to improve. Interested in getting training for your pup through private lessons? Here at Groot’s Canine we have lots of fun during board and trains and Boarding BootCamps! Check our newest Board and Train!!! Shadow has been with us for 5 days and and for most of the week we have been working on his confidence, independence, and engagement! Even though he is with me to get intensive training, why can’t we do all the fun things? This week I took him out to try his hand at dock diving twice with BKL Air Dogs and work on his confidence and engagement around new environments, water, new dogs, and new smells. He was a rockstar! He was very nervous and unsure at first but opened up quickly and yesterday he got in the water, swam, and began jumping to retrieve! Thank you so much to BKL for letting us come out and have fun!
Check out this gorgeous and smart poodle, Duhblinn! He has had 3 sessions with me so far and is doing amazing! We have started to work on down with implied stay, place, and recall! Our last session we also introduced door manners and a retrieve!! I love working with him, he is so eager to learn and the chillest puppy I have met! I am excited to see where he goes with his owners! Have a new puppy? Interested in getting them started with basic obedience? Reach out today! I have limited spots left and filling up fast!
Remy completed his 8-day Boarding Boot Camp with us the other day and check him out!! Remy has done a lot of private lessons with us and his owners have worked with him a lot. He has a super solid foundation in manners and obedience. So, this boot camp was all about e-collar conditioning to really proof and solidify everything he knows! He did fantastic! In this week we introduced the e-collar and taught him how to turn off the “pressure” and paired it with place, down, come, and his implied leave-it around plates. He excelled by no surprise!! Going out of town this summer? Interested in a Boarding Boot Camp? Reach out today! We are completely booked for June and almost completely booked for July!
Honey had her first public outing session and look at all this engagement and focus! She is such a rockstar already! It is very, very important to socialize puppies at a young age safely and appropriately. Right from the beginning you want to show them the world while also building trust/engagement, structure, and manners! it’s important to recognize socialization is way more than just letting your puppy meet everyone and get all the pets. It’s actually much better to build their engagement with you while they can look, smell, and feel all that is new to them and not have a single pet from a stranger! You want to be the most exciting person in the room and everyone else boring as can be. This is hard if they are being pet by every new person walking by. The best way to build a well-socialized and behaved pet in public is making it about you and your dog, taking it slow, and heavily rewarding them for engaging you and seeing/smelling something new! Interested in learning more about socialization or working on your pet’s manners in public? Reach out today! I am booking a few weeks out! #dogtraining
Check out this video right here, I just had to show this dog off! It may not seem like a lot but if only I had a comparison because the difference is huge! When I first met Aspen, she was riddled with anxiety about many things, especially new people and anything that moved outside. She was always on high alert, barking and lunging with zero engagement to her owner. After just a few lessons, appropriate socialization and exposure, and management techniques, she can more calmly walk on a leash around wildlife, new people, and dogs! She still has a long way to go to get where her owners want her to be but now her owners have the tools to continue to work with her!! I am so proud of Aspen and her owner!! Way to go! Interested in private lessons? I am booking a few weeks out so reach out to get started!
Sam, the shepsky, is excelling with her basic obedience!! Look at her go these first 2 sessions with us! Our next step is already hitting the community to work on confidence building and her anxiety around new sights and sounds since she is doing so well within her home and mine! #dogtraining Interested in private lessons? I have only a couple more spots open during the week! Reach out today to set up an evaluation!
Check out what Moco did this week!! He earned his Canine Good Citizen Certification!!! He did fantastic and aced it, by no surprise! This AKC certification tests a dogs manners in the community and is the perfect framework for training a dog to be a polite and well-rounded dog in society! There are 10 test items that range from walking loosely on a leash, reaction to distractions and other dogs, basic behaviors, and separation! It is a great curriculum to work towards and test your skills out in the community. This is my goal for all my clients who wish to participate because I do think it breaks down the basics of what your dog should know and how they should behave out in public! Interested in training or working towards your own CGC Certification? Reach out today! I have a few more slots open during the week!
This doodle pair is looking amazing in just 3 ! Last week we were able to begin working on place together, their individual heel work, door manners, and a boundary command for the kitchen! They are such fun pups to work with and so smart!! I love the work their owners are doing with them and their progress!! I can’t wait to see how much improvement they continue to make! Interested in private lessons? Reach out for an evaluation! I am almost completely booked but have a few spots open during the week!
Check out last week sessions with Moco and Kota!! These rockstars were placed in new environments this week and acted like they knew what they had been there a thousand times. Both owner’s hard work is paying off! New pet-friendly environments are great to test your dogs ability to generalize commands. However, it is imperative to only introduce new environments for proofing and generalizing once the commands are SOLID in a low distracting environments and engagement is built heavily! This sets you and your dog up for success as you continue to build! #dogtraining
