Coffee with Cooper. I walk away with a clean face. Coop is a 6 1/2 yo Treeing Walker Coonhound from Sitka who was a owner surrender. He is doing so much better now. We get his stitches removed on Monday from his tumor issue. He’s still very vocal and he has no clue how big he is. He’s very energetic, intelligent, loving, and trusting. He has a fun personality and loves to play with the other pups. Once he’s healed up, he’ll be available for adoption. Wearing my The August Fund T today.

Intruders don’t get far. Actually, this is our friend Catherine aka Cat. She comes over from time to time to help out or to see the pups. She left with plenty of beagle and basset glitter.

Before adopting, think about your long-term goals and what effect it will have on a pet. Will you be moving? Will you be getting married? Will your career keep you away from home for long periods? Are you in good health? Are you prepared financially for unexpected expenses? Your intentions are good, but how about when you’re looking at rehoming your pet in a couple of years? Sure, there are good reasons for rehoming, such as unexpected health issues and financial hardships. However, poor planning or not thinking things through on your part isn’t a good reason. Different dogs have different needs. Young pups with high energy require more time, and rescues might take a lot longer to adapt. There are high-strung breeds, and others that require a lot of time and patience. Do your research, ask a lot of questions, and think it through. If you have to make the decision on the spot, it’s not thinking it through. Be fair to your possible future friend. Think about what’s best for them and their future.

Coffee with Jolee. She’s a 11 1/2 yo old puggle who’s owner passed away and left her with her caregiver who later moved and couldn’t take her along. She’s one you could forget she’s here. She’s seldom hanging out with all the others. She prefers quiet and a good spot to nap. By her choice, she’s usually the last to eat. She’ll wait on the deck until you call her in. She’ll let you know if she thinks you’re running late on fixing a meal. She likes lap time but prefers being the only one in your lap. Doesn’t like the young guns wanting her to play. It’s not her thing. She’s being treated for Cushing disease. Only side effects are drooping belly and excessive water drinking. She’s a little sweetie and we’re glad you’re here. We love you Jolee! That’s Milo snoozing in the back. We’ll talk about him later.

Lt and Henry had appointments today. Lt had acupuncture and Henry started his treatment for lymphoma. Lt did great. He's shedding like crazy and left the crew at Susitna Animal Urgent Care lots of basset glitter. Henry had blood drawn to set a baseline so we can follow up on his progress. All his levels were good but showed signs of inflammation. He started drooling a few days ago. We think he has an upset stomach, but it's not affecting his appetite at this time. We added a prescription to calm his stomach down. His right eye is a little cloudy and slightly crossed. He started Prednisone today, which will hopefully help correct that. Thank you Dr. Chiu. Keep all the pups in your thoughts and prayers, especially Henry. If you'd like to help, visit our website at www.alaskabeagleranch.org for options. Thank you in advance.

Coffee with Pearl and Rocky photo bombing. Pearl wanted extra snuggles. She’s been such a good girl. Rocky wanted in on her time but as a headrest. Pearl is the hardest playing pup and listens so well for a beagle. It’s not unusual to call her in and she brings her Chuckit ball with her. She’ll even take it in her kennel to have while she eats. So happy you’re here Pearl! We love you!!!

I’m getting some yardwork done while we’re having some nice weather. I think I had more sticks and limbs in the yard than there are on the trees. It’s past winters wind storms kicked our Boutte. Hip pups are always a big help.

Coffee with Lucy. Loves her lap time and belly rubs. One of the first in line at meal time. Really loves being in the yard. On the security team but often sends false alarms and will bark at the air. She’s a sweetie and has the eyes that can convince you that you missed her at treat time. Glad you are here. I love Lucy!

Coffee with Nani. Nani and Siri are bilingual. I’m not. They and their original humans are from Costa Rica and they made it to Seattle. They saw ABR on the news a few years ago and decided that the ranch is where their pups would enjoy retirement life. They are enjoying it and we’re so glad they’re here. Love you gals.
