Latest Update on Newborn Beau Hubbard 💔
He was only 3 days old when doctors told his parents they might have to let him go.
Today, Beau Hubbard is nearly 4 weeks old — and still fighting.
Born with an extremely rare and complex heart defect, Beau’s condition was so severe that specialists at Texas Children’s Hospital admitted they had never seen a case like his before.
But Beau’s parents, Dillon and Meghan Hubbard of Killeen, Texas, refused to give up.
This is Beau’s story — told by the one who knows it best: his mother.
Meghan writes:
Before Beau was born, doctors already knew his heart had not developed properly. Open-heart surgery would be required immediately after birth. We moved closer to the hospital so there would be no delays.
When Beau entered the world, he wasn’t breathing. He had to be resuscitated right away. Doctors quickly realized his heart anatomy was far more complicated than they had anticipated — unlike anything they had treated before.
Because Beau’s heart sends too much blood to his lungs, he lives with a constant risk of lung damage. Low oxygen levels before and during birth also caused swelling in his brain. He was placed on therapeutic cooling for 72 hours — and against all odds, there is no brain damage.
Due to the severity of his condition, Beau was airlifted by helicopter from Austin to Houston.
Doctors say Beau will need three major heart surgeries:
• The first surgery — already completed — was to regulate blood flow to his lungs and prevent further damage.
• The second will be performed as his smaller blood vessels grow.
• The final surgery will fully repair his heart.
We’ve been told Houston will be our home for at least six months, possibly longer, as Beau grows stronger and prepares for each procedure.
Beau may not even be a month old yet — but his parents believe he’s planning on being here for thousands of months to come.
That’s something Meghan knows.
And something Beau knows, too.
