Custom orders always push us to think outside the box…literally.

Today was all about welding up the base for a custom bench, new design for us. Our customer wanted a practical spot to put shoes on a shelf as well as being able to slide shoes underneath, so we added 3 horizontal steel bars to create both function and clean modern lines.

There’s something satisfying about watching raw steel come together piece by piece — measuring, clamping, welding, grinding…turning an idea into something built to last. Next stop: powder coating.

And of course, wherever work is happening in the shop, the Newfies are never far away. Supervising, lounging, keeping us company…they just want to be where their people are. ❤️

(And before anyone worries — when the welding sparks start flying, the dogs are moved safely out of the danger zone.)

We have many hobbies between creating…
Dave’s bee adventure…🐝

Last year’s honey bee adventure didn’t end the way Dave hoped…
the hive didn’t survive the first frost.

But Dave was determined to try again.
More reading, more learning, more preparing for the eventual long winter ahead. And so far this years…are thriving. 🐝

The hive is busy, active, and growing.
Tiny new babies tucked inside the comb, workers constantly moving, building, feeding, protecting. Nature at work is pretty incredible to watch up close.
I don’t watch up close…Dave takes pics & videos for me. 🤭

One of the questions we get asked most is if I worry about the Newfies around the bees.
Last year? Absolutely, it was our first year having them.
But after watching them together, we realized the bees really don’t bother the dogs… it’s the dogs that are fascinated with the bees. 😳

The hive sits far enough back on our property that everyone has their space, and we keep a close eye on things.

Will we get honey this year? Maybe.
But even if we don’t, the pollination, the learning experience, and watching this little ecosystem come alive again has already made it worth it. 🍯🐝

For years these circles have sat in bins around the shop…too beautiful to throw away, too challenging to design around.

Every raised dog feeder we make leaves behind these cut-outs, complete with the small drill hole needed to start the jigsaw cut. That tiny hole became the problem we could never quite solve. We tried idea after idea, determined to find a way to give these pieces a purpose because sending them to the landfill is not an option.

Then it finally clicked.
Knife blocks.

The flat steel base solved the mounting issue perfectly, the drill hole disappeared into the design, and suddenly these forgotten cut-offs became functional statement pieces.
Some are too thin and are being laminated together, creating even more depth, character, and contrast.

What was once considered scrap is now one of the most unique things we make.

Around here, waste isn’t something we’re comfortable with. If there’s a way to give wood another life, we’ll keep searching until we find it.

In the past we used them to make bottle openers, they were just the beginning… these knife blocks are the next chapter.

Not every piece goes exactly as planned… and these photos are proof of that.

Behind every finished board, tray, and epoxy pour are the moments no one usually sees — floating flowers, unexpected reactions, tiny imperfections, expensive mistakes, and the occasional “what do we do now?” moment.

Epoxy is expensive.
Wood is expensive.
Supplies are expensive.
Time is expensive.

But giving up on a piece because it challenged us? That’s never been our style.

These moments test our patience, creativity, and determination. Sometimes the fix is simple, sometimes it means starting over, reworking hours of labor, or finding a completely new direction. But every mistake teaches us something valuable, and every challenge pushes us to become better makers.

There’s a very human side to handcrafted work. No factory perfection here — just real people, learning, adapting, problem-solving, and refusing to quit on something we believe can still become beautiful.

And honestly… sometimes the “mistakes” end up creating the most unique pieces of all.

There’s something intimidating about trying something completely new… especially when you care deeply about the outcome.

This was my very first attempt at preserving flowers in epoxy, and I went into it with equal parts excitement and fear. Every layer felt like a test of patience. Every pour came with a hundred “what ifs.”

What if the flowers floated? What if the colors faded? What if bubbles ruined everything?

There were moments I doubted the entire piece. Moments I thought I had completely messed it up. But slowly, layer by layer, this table started becoming something beautiful.

And now looking at her finished… I’m kind of in awe. 🌸

The mix of natural wood, deep black epoxy, and delicate florals feels bold, feminine, and unlike anything I’ve created before.

So maybe this was beginner’s luck…or maybe this is the start of something new. ✨

Not gonna lie…this one makes us reconsider Not wanting to sell it. 😉

From a raw slab of walnut to a sculptural piece of functional art.

This one demanded every detail be just right…preserving the rugged live edges while refining the rich walnut grain, fabricating a heavy steel base for stability, and adding minimalist steel bottle rests that let the wood remain the star.

The result is an 8 bottle stand-alone wine rack that feels equal parts organic and industrial.
Bold. Refined. One of a kind.

A statement piece created for the wine lover who wants more than storage…they want something unforgettable.

Rough luxury with a modern edge — built to stand beautiful! 🍷✨
