I feel absolutely terrible for making this update, but unfortunately it’s necessary. I’ve never charged for last minute cancellations, unlike so many other salons. This is because I know life happens…things happen. They happen to me! Sometimes I have to move appointments around with little notice, which is why I’ve never charged for such things. But in the past week, I’ve lost $245 due to last minute cancellations (I mean within 30 minutes or less of appointment times). While I’m very sympathetic, truly, I’m also not grooming as a hobby. It’s literally how I feed my family and keep utilities on so I can continue grooming. Home based salons still have overhead, such as water bills, electricity, supplies, etc. I’ve always tried to keep my fees low because I understand how expensive grooming can be. But this past week has been disheartening. And please don’t think I’m calling out any particular person, because it’s been an ongoing issue for a very long time. I’ve just tried my best to overlook it and be as understanding as possible…because like I said, occasionally I do have to reschedule last minute (being a solo groomer who works seven days a week, there’s almost no wiggle room for emergencies). However, going forward I feel like I’ve had no choice but to adopt the same policies most salons have - appointments cancelled after 24 hours of the scheduled times will be required to pay 50% of their normal grooming fee. Or they can prepay for the grooming appointment (non-refundable) before rebooking. I truly hate this…it’s kept me up at night. But I’ve invested 23 years into my career and training. This is my job, as much as I love it, it’s still my job and how I support my family. I have only opened my books to new clients 3 times in the 3 years I’ve been open, and my waiting list is longer than my arm, so I’d rather fill those slots with clients who respect me and my time. And like I said…once, twice? That’s understandable. Anything after that and I can no longer hold a spot and risk losing that appointment. I can’t fill a spot with ten minutes notice. I love my clients so much, and I love my babies even more! But I have to put my family and our basic needs before everything, unfortunately. I truly hope this doesn’t upset anyone, because like I said, it’s been happening SO MUCH lately, and it’s never been an issue before now. I truly hope I don’t lose any of my beloved babies because of this, I just have bills like everyone else, and losing over $200 in a single weekend hurts.
Much love to you all,
Angie
