Paws of Southwest A nonprofit community organization comprising dog owners and residents in the ANC-6D neighborhood of SW Washington, DC.

The Paws of Southwest is building community through a love of our dogs. Sponsored by the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly, The Paws of Southwest is focused on creating an off-leash dog park at Lansburgh Park, located on Delaware Ave., SW. We also know that dogs can help bring together people in a community, and we want to build on that by providing ways for people to have fun with their dogs, educate our neighbors about dogs as companions, as well as promote responsible dog ownership.

Dear Paws of Southwest / Lansburgh Dog Park friends: We are very saddened to tell you of the passing of a dear friend and one of our founding members, Hannelore Meyer. She left us early this morning, shortly after suffering a stroke. Hannelore was a tireless volunteer who loved music and the SW Community she called home for so many years. Most of all, Hannelore loved dogs and all animals. "Pocket" had been her most recent partner up until his passing a couple of years ago. As a founding member and treasurer of Paws of Southwest, she was one of the original group of us who advocated for and helped establish the Lansburgh Dog Park. I know I will miss seeing her around the neighborhood and talking about dogs and music. Rest in peace, Hannelore - I know Pocket and the rest were waiting for you!🌹🐾🌹🐾🌹🐾🌹
