Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation

Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation

Help us help Texas dogs and cats.

When our friends at San Antonio Pets Alive reached out to ask us to take in animals so that they could free up space and resources to help more animals affected by Hurricane Harvey, we had to say yes. It will require a lot of financial resources, but we knew we could count on the LDCRF community to step up and help us help them.

Shelters throughout Texas will be inundated in days to come with animals displaced by Harvey. Their greatest need now is to move animals who were up for adoption prior to the storm out state to make room for owned animals who need a safe space while they wait to be reunited with their families.

At LDCRF we are currently at capacity, but have found space to board the dogs and cats and will be utilizing fosters in the coming weeks as well. We look forward to being able to help and hope you'll consider helping us help Hurricane Harvey pets by making a donation of whatever you can afford to offset the costs of boarding and care for our four-legged friends from Texas.

We will continue to be in touch with our fellow rescuers throughout the area to offer assistance for Labs that may need relocating.

Over the next several days and weeks, we will update you on our progress.

Fostering saves lives and this is never more true than when natural disasters happen. PLEASE FOSTER TODAY!!! And, please share this post so that others will know that we have a need and how they can help.

The White House Historical Association

When president-elect Abraham Lincoln’s family left Illinois for Washington, D.C., one of its members did not accompany them—their dog Fido. The floppy-eared yellow mutt had been with the Lincoln family for over five years, but he did not travel to the White House.

In Springfield, Lincoln allowed Fido to track mud into the house, climb on furniture, and cause trouble. Mary Todd worried that the dog might soil the carpet or damage the furniture in the Executive Mansion Lincoln agreed: Fido would have to stay in Illinois.

Lincoln put Fido in the care of carpenter John Eddy Roll and his two sons, John and Frank. He gave the Rolls a horsehair sofa from the Lincoln home to make Fido feel more comfortable. Once in Washington, the family received reports about Fido. On one occasion, barber William Fleurville wrote that the president should tell his sons that their “dog is alive and kicking, doing well.”

Sadly, Fido never again got the chance to reunited with his beloved owner. He accompanied John Roll’s son to witness President Lincoln’s funeral procession in Springfield, where many in the crowd recognized him. Soon after, Roll soon took Fido to a photographer, and the dog’s portrait spread far and wide as the nation memorialized Lincoln.

Some historians believe that the name Fido became popular for dogs because of this particular Fido’s renown.

New to Town – Need a Veterinarian

Town Hall is now preparing Welcome Kits for new families that are moving into our community.

Our Welcome Kits feature and direct these new families to a small number of local businesses for the goods, services & professionals that they need to find.

Since our Welcome Kits are exclusive, and we can only accommodate one Veterinarian, I would ask you to kindly let me know if you are interested in being the featured Veterinarian in our local Welcome Kits.

It is worthy to note that, according to Dr. Cathy Goodwin in her book “Making the Big Move”, 55% of new residents and families seek out a new Veterinarian shortly after their relocation. As such, more than one-half of our Welcome Kit recipients are actively looking for a new Vet.

I would like to schedule a time when you are expecting me so that I may drop off a sample of our "Welcome Kit" and explain the program in greater detail.

Please reply to this email with your availability or call me at your earliest convenience.

For a faster response, or if you prefer, feel free to text me on my cell which is listed in my signature.
