My first guy came from a good breeder and he was the best. Undiagnosed cancer took him suddenly at 6. Two months later, I drove 2 1/2 hours to a shelter and got my 3 year old abused Shepherd. He came from an Amish puppy mill. He is now 6 and although has health issues and being so different from my other guy, he is perfect. He has taken over the couch and bed and is spoiled rotten. Yes, he communicates and protects and shadows. Rescues appreciate a second chance to be their best.

I’m 77 and husband is 78. We have had 7 GSD over the last 30 years usually 2 at a time. Our last dog Lora died a year ago.
Although we are not as mobile we are looking to have another older GSD as they don’t need as much walking.

81? Me, too. I've got my rescue girl, a Swiss Shepherd who was service trained for the hearing impaired and either autism or PTSD. I adopted her 3 years ago and she is about 8 or 9. She's developing large bumps on her body, but still eating and wanting to walk. When she's gone, I'll rescue another Shepherd. Love them.
